The runway does not need to be cleared to full width which is never required anyway unless you have squadrons of fighters taking off in two's and three's abrest. And, it does not need to cleared to full length which is also not required.
The lights might be a problem I don't know, generally pilots don't like this non standard width because the lights are too far apart.

Oh for God's sake, the lack of joined up thinking here is appalling! Education really has failed if you can't think further than the bloke with the shovel clearing the drive. I live half a mile away from DSA and on Wednesday morning there were 14" of the white stuff on the drive so I'll bet there's a hell of a lot more on the exposed runway up the road. If you don't 'clear the whole runway' how much are you gonna clear and where are you gonna put said white stuff because unless you haven't noticed it isn't thawing! I know! We'll dump it straight on top of the lights .... anyone spot the flaw here? But if we do clear the whole runway (and taxiways,) given that I've got 4' banks of snow either side of my piddling little drive, anyone want to hazard a guess at the size of the snow banks that'd end up at the side of the runway/taxiways? I'm sure there'd be something in CAA regulations about 12' high banks of snow either side of and close to the runway!
And Wawkrk you are joking about 'pilots not liking non-standard width' runways right? I thought it was the (if necessary, illuminated) centre line they aimed for and no matter how hard I try I can't work out how that can ever be anywhere but in the same place no matter how wide the runway.... i.e. the middle of it ....

I know that at LBA,some Winters the strip had been partly cleared to a width of 30m and aircraft have been landing.I dont know what is the minimum width required to carry out breaking action runs.probably for the heavies, the minimum may be 46m.

Regarding the state of DSA's runway. HUY have managed to get their runway open with only 1 plough & 1 sicard. I believe DSA have got much more equipment than that

EMA barely received 2 inches. I flew into it yesterday and there really wasn't a lot.
I think people are forgetting that South Yorkshire virtually had the worst snow in the country this week - it's not reasonable to think that any airport in those conditions can be opened at a finger click!
And regarding Humberside, they have a 98820m squared runway, DSA has a 173580m squared runway. You do the maths!

Report on BBC website states 48cm of snow on top of ice on the runway.
Good news to see more carriers to Tenerife - surely with Easyjet's competition gone Ryanair will bring back Gerona as the flight doesn't go through LBA, and if the Irish tax is recinded then Dublin will be back.

So doing the maths is not really up for discusion. Its all down to hard graft and getting on with the job at hand.

I take the point about LBA clearing the runway to 30m, I think that is the limit for 737 operations, at least I'm sure I've seen it on these forums somewhere. But I've also read somewhere that there is a snow bank limit, and with 48cms lying on the DSA runway, clearing that to either side would probably exceed it 3 to 4 times. Mind you it's raining now!

Now closed until 10am on Monday at the earliest.
Laughable really. What passengers effected would ever consider using the airport again? And what message does it send out to potential new airlines that after snow fall, the airport can be closed for the best part of a week.

If all airlines took that stance Timmy, no one would be flying from LBA, as that's usually closed a hell of a lot more than DSA!
And as jumpseater said above, you'll still haven't answered the question about the "big announcement"!

Ryanair have opened LBA - El Prat, however, and may not wish to compete with themselves on that.
