When Mike Morton mentioned the Wizz Air expansion a few weeks ago on the radio, I thought it sounded like it was pretty much in the bag. Unfortunately nothing more but hot air.

as Wizz Air said they have no plans for expansion.
Do you have any evidence to support this? as there is evidence from the Airport MD saying there will be expansion. Just because it isn't announced within a couple of weeks of his statement doesn't mean it isn't happening.

Who said anything about KLM moving away from HUY?

They operate MAN/LPL, CWL/BRS so may be able to sustain DSA/HUY, Especially with the F70.

Draw a line on a roadmap from CWL to BRS and you go through... Cardiff and Bristol. Do the same from LPL to MAN, you never leave an urbanised area.

Draw a line from DSA to HUY and you go through... some farms.

KLM won't sustain both DSA and HUY. They'll go where the fees are cheapest.

You've obviously not driven along the M56 for a while? From Manchester airport to near runcorn, its open farmland. Certainly isnt urbanised anyway?

Extremely amusing, and pleasing, given the comments said literally days ago!

as Wizz Air said they have no plans for expansion
Unfortunately nothing more but hot air.

Vilnius is a nice addition to the Eastern European route network from Donny. But I wonder what the demand is like for a service to Lithuania from Yorkshire and the North of England.
Also 2 extra weekly Wizz Air flights hardly fills the gap of the 5 routes that Easyjet are going to leave behind from January

Are they any other rumours of any extra routes by airlines for next summer, As it was said before on here the MD was only talking about Wizz Air a couple of weeks ago and now that has happened where dose DSA go from here?

Teevee, considering Vilnuis is underserved from the North of England, i would assume the catchment area for that route would be quite large....

I think Vilnius was run from MAN by Estonian but bombed after a short programme. Wizz no doubt will be cheaper but I thought most Baltic state emigrant workers had gone home now? Not sure what the market is going to be like.

Hi Roverman,
I believe that Estonian operated MAN-TLL (Tallinn); I don't think a service to Vilnius ever commenced.
Regards. SHED.

Shed,

Yes, you are probably right. I lose track, but it seems that these Baltic services are somewhat fragile and so I wouldn't bank on any such service lasting, or perhaps even starting.

The baltic states must be low yielding, as the route shop says MAN-TLL is capable of 18000 O&D pax. Maybe wizzair could make it work, or Norweigan?

Hearing now that DSA is set to intoroduce a development charge as they have done at Teeside.

I think this will put another nail in the coffin as far as DSA is concerned.

It will put pay to any growth or new airlines coming in and will probably see airlines pulling out.

You do have to wonder why the place ever opened. It clearly has no future.

Surely the fact it serves circa 1 million passengers is enough proof to show it was needed in the first place, and does have a future? Or is this more "hot-air", just like you claiming that Wizz weren't expanding, the day before they announce another route?

FR have told Travel Trade Gazette they would pull out if a charge was introduced (no surprise really)
