^^ That was just too funny!

Im guessing DSA "base" launch is the least of the easy worries at this current time.

Last edited by LGW_08R; 18th Apr 2010 at 23:22. Reason: "base" to reflect post below. I know its not a base but you know what i mean, dont you? maybe

Indeed. The inaugral easyJet UK flights out of Doncaster have been Cancelled.

Please be advised that this isn't a "base" as such as there are no EZY crew based at DSA. The crew on these flights will be LPL based crew

Is the Dublin route due to be cancelled in October? Doesn't allow any bookings after that date. Can't understand why the whole route network hasn't been opened up for flights from regional airports?

Latest news is the announcement by Vancouver Airports taking over Peel that they intend to invest in and expand DSA? Any ideas how they'll do that?

Any likelyhood of ever seeing a KLM schedule from here?

Easyjet Pullout

The airport have left a statement on the website;

Media | Press Releases | Robin Hood Airport Doncaster Sheffield Statement

Unfortunately it was inevitable, though there was always that chance that they would stay and make a propper base of it.

The local news stated at luchtime that the airport are actively talking as we speak to 3 undisclosed airlines to at least keep the 5 routes active. He said they are confident by March an airline will be their to fill at least some of the void that will be left. . .

A funny sort of justice!

Grow up! Nobody at DSA gloated over EMA losing EZY and I fail to see how losing jobs at either airport is good. It's a funny sort of justice that leads to job losses and is welcomed by bitter people who can't see that EZY was probably going to leave EMA anyway and DSA probably just gave it a nice cheap transitional deal for 8 months. Because the more you look at the original routes for 8 months only(???), then the 'reasons' for pulling out, it begins to look pretty clear that they had absolutely no intention of stopping at DSA either, even before they set foot over the doorstep.

DSA

Interesting thing is some of the prices for flights are quite high, so this suggests the load factor is good.

Perhaps a W pattern might have been better for some of the routes.

I was at the announcement at EMA when the now departed CEO conformed the closure of EMA, after the 90 day consultation period and the plans for DSA was announced. He even told us then, that this was simply a short term deal to allow growth at MAN basically and DSA was never a long term vision.

Predictably, as soon as EZY announced DSA-BCN, Ryanair pulled out of GRO. Don't blame them really. But there is certainly a summer demand from Donny to Catalunya. Flights on both airlines had good load factors (yes I know about yields, but over the past three years, prices have seemed high) so I hope someone will take over.

It's a shame, though perhaps there are serious questions being asked as to why Doncaster has failed with easyJet, and Ryanair show little interest. Quite possibly the two easiest airlines to persuade to operate out of DSA are both not interested in any long term plans, it does questions DSA's viability.

Does anyone know how long Thomson signed a deal for? As it really would be a kick in the teeth if they decided to not renew their contract! There obviously is a market from DSA, though only a small market. It is well placed to be a major regional airport, however it was maybe ten years too late in the building, shame really.

Try not to worry too much - there's always Durham Tees Valley when satisfying comparisons of airport size are needed !

Doncaster

Going back a few years ago, EZY operated to Geneva ex Doncaster. Was that on a W pattern or did the aircraft position into Doncaster?

I think this sums up the problems perfectly.
EMA/LBA well established close by, and MAN just over the pennines.
With these airports, the carriers that could use DSA are already well established, so serving DSA only dilutes loads to those other airports, and whilst good for DSA, not good for the airlines as they get no benefit to this. They would be serving the same number of pax, just having more costs by serving multiple airports.
Realistically, who is left that could serve DSA?

LS are established at LBA, EMA and MAN
FR are at EMA, LBA
EZY at MAN and by pulling out are obviously not interested
WW are at MAN and EMA

ZB could offer routes to sun destinations, as the closest scheduled base is MAN but they dont offer scheduled services at the likes of EDI, let alone DSA?

Now, in terms of the replacement of routes, who do you think they could be speaking to?
AMS- maybe KLM or Transavia?
BCN- Maybe spanair but I very much doubt it
PRG- wizzair perhaps, as they already serve DSA
FAO- Im not sure of a carrier other than the above mentioned that could do it on a scheduled basis
PMI- same as FAO.
