Oh - dont get me wrong - this is a very decent thing to do - and good business - just unwise as there are others other than the CVT RFFS 18 who want local jobs - RZO, EMA not to mention all the ones who HAVE kept their jobs at CVT. To select just 18 candidates and close the door to others is what's wrong here - not the fact BHX are trying to help the redundant CVT lads out - not at all!
fire cover
looks like it is official

loss v/s pax
I guess loosing £2.626,496 in 2004 during the start up with 462,368 pax would be expected. and in 2005 £1,062,887 loss with 719,473 pax was looking ok (only loosing £1.50 per passenger).
But
What happened in 2006? Nearly £6m loss on 610,618 passengers..that is £10 per passenger. Could Coventry ever have succeeded?

What you have to think of is some nights Thomsonfly are the only ones opperating, say 4 flights from 2200-0700. For those 4 planes theyve got atleast 3 controllers two of which have to have both approach and aerodrome, then you've got 1 assistant, CAT 6 fire cover, full handling agent staff through the night. All for 4 planes.
It doesn't take a genious to work out where money was being lost.

What happened in 2006?
Please spend £1 at comps house to have a look. The accounts are shocking. Millions have been siphoned off the airports operating company to other firms run by the same directors to pay for the planning of the expansion.
also in 2006 accounts
"During the year the company made payments to Convergence Aviation & Communications limited (CAC) of £1,467,156 in relation to a broadband telecimmunications project for Coventry airport, payments of £122,680 in releation to Capital expenditure on the airport and payments of £13,664 in releation to operational overheads of the airport. A S M xxxxxxxx and GC xxxxx xxxxxxxxxx, directors of the company during the year were also directors of CAC"

What freight? some nights it was just the Thomsons.
Good job they're not still here now, even the freights disappearing, has been going for little while even before thomson left.

Tom has actually been in post for a few months but perhaps now is the moment for something positive.
Very interesting that Brian Cox is now referred to as Airport Director. Does anybody know anything about him?
Perhaps somebody should be re-doing the home page of the website?

Would that be (if it comes off?) that Coventry will be host to a very large Cargo operator in the near future? Operating Turbo-props?
35 flights between 01.00hrs and 6.00hrs every night? Can't wait!! (well...it is a rumour forum!) Hope it comes off.

No controllers have left, they've all just been shoved onto over crowded day shifts to get everyone validated for all their tickets.
Having night shifts back would be much better than the afternoon shifts that finish at 1.

Could it be magic?
So the accounts could be suggesting a substantial passage of money out of the business to consultants?
What a surprise!
There is, most definitely, a strong whiff of nest feathering on a grand scale which is sickening for the many hundreds of staff and others who have been balls'd up by the airport management.
Their incompetence is forgivable because they could only use the intellectual apparatus available to them. But draining the business for personal gain, if its true, shows that behind the apparent total lack of ability there lay a very clever bunch of folk indeed. Shame their talents were not diverted into anything more constructive.
It is rumoured that the CEO is no more. His departure does raise the average intellect somewhat and for some there will be a small amount of satisfaction for he had few fans and made many, MANY enemies. However it is highly unlikely that any of the remaining managers have the skills necessary to steer the business to success.
If I was running a business that relied on the future of the airport I would be very concerned right now. A number of Companies have a vested interest in that runway staying open and, on present and past performance, there is little to suggest that the current regime have what it takes to do that.
I sincerely hope I am wrong.
