I take that LCY was operated at a higher frequency/another aircraft type? 22 pax and 23 % down mean an average load of 27 pax last years if the route was operated with the same frequency and type (if so, it would mean a 87 % load factor and tell a lot about the cost of the D328 and LCY...)

The numbers are actually very good, when it is considered that the southbound am/northbound pm are likely to be busier than the reverses.
Also, the average last Sep to LCY was just under 22.8 whereas this year to STN is just over 21.2. So, despite moving to a less 'convenient' airport they have only lost 1.5 pax per flight. Assuming lower operating costs are achieved at STN, at face value this route must be more viable now than previously before receipt of PSO is even taken into account.
What would be interesting to know is how it can be quantified that this service is contributing to economic development in the Dundee area, and whether it providing local taxpayers with value for money.

I am not sure about the worth of comparing this January's figures with last years figures, as that time last year the route was to LCY and not STN.
From the other posts it is clear that STN has been less popular than LCY, however the difference in passenger numbers between the two routes seems to have lessened.
As has been said before STN is cheaper to operate to than LCY, and there is a PSO in place. This will help the bottom line of the airline, but then again, who knows if these figures are good or not?

...month of September...23% down on same month last year
down 19% on last Jan

“What Dundee needs is an hourly rail service to Edinburgh in the south and Aberdeen in the north.
I do actually agree with him re the flights, though.

He suggested routes to the major business centres of Manchester and Birmingham, which a spokesman for Flybe franchise partner Loganair played down saying: “We are focused on the current Dundee to Stansted service and have no plans to introduce new routes.”
Does the PSO subsidy still leave the airline exposed to losses if the loads are poor?
