Dundee Airport gains new Loganair service to London Stansted - Dundee / Local / News / The Courier

“Leisure passengers will also enjoy a greater choice of onward connecting airlines and destinations, while those heading for a London city break will find Stansted well placed for the city’s top attractions.”

He added: "Efforts are continuing to secure a Public Service Obligation that would ensure the long-term future of services between Dundee and London. However, this is a good solution for the city at this time, and we hope that business and leisure passengers will support the service.”
He wants a PSO taxpayer subsidy to pay for leisure travelers to use a smaller more expensive aeroplane than already available at a nearby and very accessible EDI where both BA and easyJet offer a fast and comfortable jet service to three London airports each from LHR/LGW/STN/LTN/LCY? Is Gordon Brown still in charge?

Stansted has great rail connections all over East Anglia, Cambridgeshire and The Midlands in addition to London Liverpool St.

I really hope it's a success, Not everyone wants to fly from EDI and ABZ.

I struggle to understand why some on here want to denounce something that is positive and keeps people in the industry employed, should that be flight deck, cabin crew or ground staff.

Post 628 :

Hence they now have a more pressing need. It would be a complete about turn for Loganair to do this, they're not known to be bold, that's why they're still around!
Are Loganair launching on a promised taxpayer subsidy though? They just walked away from an expensive failure on DND-BHX and BHD and are stepping into a route CityJet were failing on with a monopoly. Having pulled out entirely from Dundee for the (at least) second time to operate a niche high cost aeroplane against BA and EZY, that's **not** a wholly commercial decsion is it? Promises have been made or Loganair have become flakey for the first time.

Bottom line is, DND-STN ain't commerciallly viable without taxpayer's money being chucked at it. No similar domestic operation exists at STN, or has done for a number of years.

not everyone obviously wanted to fly from Dundee or every route that was launched wouldn't have been a flop or been culled

Can't believe Loganair will do this without the taxpayer subsidy, Loganair seem like a well run airline and make good profits for their size, defiantly not like them to take a big risk like this. I know all new routes are always a slight risk because some do go south even tough they look good, but Dundee to Stansted is a big one, i mean Eastern didn't manage to make STN-MAN work on their J41, so really don't think this could work without a taxpayer subsidy.

You can hardly compare Manchester to Dundee from Stansted like for like when the main reason that STN/LGW and LCY's links to Manchester have gone is due to a journey time of just over 2 hours by train.

Dundee takes three times that from Kings Cross FYI.

Stansted is well connected to the city, just 45 minutes down the M11 by road or 48 minutes by train to Liverpool Street from a station located on-site unlike it's competitor at 'Bedfordshire International'. How do I know this? I've done it on many an occasion.

It's also close to Cambridge, the whole of Essex, Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and accessible to the Midlands via the A14. It also has an excellent coach network to pretty much anywhere you need to get to.

Do I need to touch on the fact it has connections to god knows how many destinations via FR & EZY

Go educate yourselves. I bet half of you don't even have the experience of ever having used Stansted.

Indeed, this flight has been running for over 20 years and is well used.

Did I mention FlyBe offering onward connections on FR/EZY. No.

The fact of the matter is that people travelling from Dundee can use the services of FR/EZY to their advantage.

I have enough knowledge and expertise having been in the aviation business for twenty odd years, which is a lot to be said compared to the many 'aviation enthusiasts' shall we call them that troll this site on a daily basis spreading their muck.

Time will tell old chap.

I'm not going to get personal dude but I am not a troll and I know the defintion of a connection and who does and doesn't offer one. Kinda basic commercial stuff really. If you wanna bet on it, my view is that it's not commercially sustainable without government funding. It will stay if Loganair get a PSO, dumped very quickly otherwise.

Respectfully its good news for the airport. And if marketed right and pricing kept low.
A link to Stanstead is not to be sniffed it.
Its a helluva lot better than driving down there or for example Dundee residents or folk who can probably park cheaper or get a local bus to the airport. No manic waits at Dundee and then Arrive at Stanstead and all its Mryiad connections. Plus its on the rail links into London.
And beyond to LHR. Seems to me Dundee has pulled off what Doncaster Dtv Newquay and others have needed for a long time.
If the route works. Put a larger aircraft n more frequencies.
As For STN. Good call.
Heres hoping perhaps Stornoway and Sumburgh might be able to do the Same!.
(And Doncaster). So congrats to you Dundee airport people and supporters. Id love to see Logan doing Flights from Dsa to Edinburgh or Glasgow. Aberdeen and Inverness.

Pamann considering I have just started my new job as a pilot at Stansted and my location and the fact I have flown from Stansted at least 3 times a year for the past 15 years I know it quite well as I do Norwich

Agreed I was perhaps wrong to use the Manchester as an example, but all me and SOE are saying is we can't see it working without a subsidy. Perhaps we will get proved wrong, I certainly hope it's a success because we all want the aviation sector to grow and expand as well as stansted and dundee

But as for you, being rude to people because of there opinion just over a new route is crazy, I mean really how sad can someone's life be to get rude over something as small as this.

If anyone gets tired of debating Stansted-Dundee, there's always the possibility of discussing Cardiff-Anglesey instead...
