Ben,
The following flights operate from T5 from March 27th:
Current Terminal 1 Longhaul flights.
Current Terminal 1 Shorthaul flights except those operated by 757s.
Current Terminal 3 Longhaul flights to MIA
Current Terminal 4 Shorthaul flights.
I.E. Everything except T4 longhaul flights and shorthaul flights operated by 757s.

I've got three return flights from NCL to LHR bookeed this year and all appear in the schedule as airbus. The e-tickets show me going to T5 in all instances.
HOWEVER, on one of my trips to the smoke last year, the airbus was replaced by a 757. Should be fun the first time round - or maybe they'll have it sorted by Apr 8th....

757s and T5
Before anyone asks, 757s will not be using T5 because of bagage handling problems. The 757 does not use bagage containers, while T5 bagage handling is based on the use of containers.

757 and T5
Could it be the days of hand luggage only are closer then we think.....
Seriously, whilst no 757 will be scheduled into T5, the 757 might have to stand in for a machine that has gone tech. My guess is that on those odd occasions, the luggage containers will have to wheeled up to the 757 and then unloaded by hand into the belly of the 757. Not really too different to what happens now with the baggage carts.
The same would apply to a 737.

The 757s will be transferred on T5 day to the Spanish routes which are not moving to T5, but going across to T3, as the aircraft have bulk baggage loading and T5 will be containerised only. The facilities in T3 will ultimately be shared with the codeshared Iberia flights, and indeed with all other OneWorld carriers (eg Qantas, Finnair, Malev) who will move around from their current terminals. Yes, it is an inconvenience there is little publicity about. Presumably these BA flights will come over in 2012 when the remaining satellite at T5 is completed (and the 757 will be out of the fleet).
It's the same as at present where A321s only operate out of T4, not on T1 routes. BA ops may get a lot of stick, but they are quite able to handle divisions like this.
Regarding the markings at the stand positions, that is a completely different matter. All sorts of aircraft, including 757s, from all sorts of carriers are currently parked on T5 stands, and this presumably will continue to some extent, the pax being bussed to/from other terminals as at the moment.

757
Geffen - You are absolutely right passengers won't know their aircraft is operated by a 757 on a dedicated route. That's why their ticket will say which terminal just as it does now T1 / T3 or T4.

So from 27th March will all the other airline swap terminals too? Or will it be a gradual process?
Has it actually been decided for definite which airlines are going to which terminal?
I know the general idea is Star Alliance = T1, oneworld = T3 and
Skyteam = T4. But I take it there will be some exceptions.
Also when does T2 actually close?

I am confused about the whole terminal 1 & 2 operation. When terminal 2 is demolished, where do all the airlines go? I have also heard that a new terminal called Heathrow East will replace terminal 2 and eventually terminal 1 when it is demolished. Is this true?

Well the entire BA operation in T1 will be moving to T5 so Terminal One will be pretty empty with mainly BMI. It's at this point the plan to empty T2 and reshuffle the others swings into play. I ask, because I've only travelled through T2 once and I had to run like Hell for the flight as check in was very slow and never got the chance to shoot some pictures as was my cunning plan at the outset.
It is indeed poor planning that there is no published plan for which airlines are moving where on which days, especially as the BA transfer to T5 is a phased transfer with several stages (and every time I read about it, it's different).
Any construction project over this duration would have a detailed plan put together by now where everyone could see what was going to be done when. But apparently BAA are still negotaiting with some of the participants on what to do.
The transfer of BA flights to Spain, operated by 757s, from T1 to T3, is apparently delayed as BA have to "fit out T3 to their standards first" (though goodness knows what is needed, as when BA flights to Miami use T3 at present they just put the BA logo up on the screens above check-in, a 30-second task). And this fitout can't be done until United move from T3 to T1, into the space BA vacate into T5, and United can't fit out T1 until BA vacate it.
Incidentally, although T2 will close the stands will remain in use for remote ops through bus gates from other terminals; Heathrow can't afford to lose any aircraft parking space.
With Star, OneWorld and SkyTeam moving to T1, T3 and T4 respectively there won't be many carriers left at T2 to reaccommodate, but there will be a few. By the way, SkyTeam, T4 is not going to be on the Heathrow Express any more, requiring instead a convoluted connection and wasted time, great for the non-English speaking. Do you realise that ?
Is there a BAA project manager ? Do they have any idea what is going to happen ? Would they care to share this with those involved ?

So when do BA long haul flights move from T4 to T5? I thought a major advantage of T5 was going to be easy connections between BA long haul and short haul, to enable BA to compete more effectively against the transfer hubs at AMS, CDG and FRA.
The separate local stations "Heathrow Connect" service will run along the current route to T4 (thus not serving T5).
Passengers will be advised to change trains at T123 and wait (up to 15 minutes) for an appropriate train. If they get on at T4 I presume most will not bother, their train is going to Paddington anyway, they will just stay put.
If you think this is over-complicated, wait till you see what is going to happen to the Piccadilly Line !
