aeulad,

I can only tell you the CAA figures for the route in November which were 820 pax.

If all the advertised sectors were flown that month that would give an average load of around 6 pax per flight.

Even with Eastern's fare price structure and the use of tiny J 32s, one wonders what sort of yield an average load factor of 33% would bring.

November is perhaps not the best month for high pax figures anywhere, and it is a new route.

However, many people wondered how it would fare up against the immensely popular easyJet BRS-NCL (3 rotations daily except Sat when there are 2) with its jet equipment and over 20,000 pax every month.

The answer might appear to be - not very well, but of course only Eastern know for sure.

I would have said that air southwest would me more appropriate for the route.

Don't forget that the reason Eastern decided to fly to Bristol was largely due to 2000+ Orange personnel working 5 miles from MME, and a large Orange HQ being based near Bristol - so a lot of travelling businesspeople on a regular basis. I wouldn't be surprised if Orange have even come to some sort of arrangement where they block-book seats on each service.

I don't know the truth behind it, but I was once told a similar deal existed with Shell (or a similar oil company) arranging seats with Eastern on flights such as MME-ABZ and HUY-ABZ. I know Shell employees who use the service on a regular basis.

Thanks guys for the information on the Grenoble charter.

Which LHR service is the 145 going to do? Is it the 332/333? surely the 332 has the highest loads being the 1st flight from LHR. Using figures from November the average pax figure was 77 on every flight, much more than the 49 that can fit on a 145! Are they running the service into the ground so slots can be used for long haul??

Comparing the average 77pax on every flight, to 2004, which works out to be about 70 pax on every flight,( remebering that there was 4 flights each way every weekday), it appears that the start of the Gatwick flights which had 3262 pax in November has not had an adverse effect on the bmi pax figures to LHR. Whether this changes who knows? Certainly the 145 will have a huge effect on the figures!

HapagFly B738 and a Germanwings A319

mmeman

Correct, the ER145 will be doing the 332/333 from 1st May. The 331 has been put back to 0755 local dep with a 319. bmi are doing a great job of killing off the route. Good luck to GNER and BA at NCL !

Not really surprising, but it looks like Thomson has cancelled a Sunday night Bodrum flight for summer 06, and replaced it with a Palma flight instead.

And the new times for the bmi LHR flights have now been put onto their website, 332 leaving LHR at 07.55 as well as 331 leaving MME at 07.55, and all other flights at different times.

MD keeps saying they will break through 1 Million passenger mark, but I am not so sure, with the loss of Ryanair to Rome and Embraer 145's to LHR.

Provisional January pax figures out and the really badly performing route for bmibaby is Cork with only 780 pax in the month, which I think works out to be about 33 pax on every fligtht.

Others look like (if my maths is right!)-

ALC 84% load factor
AGP 78%
PMI 72%
CDG 43%

Lets hope the increase in frequency to Cork in the summer attracts more passengers!

Second 733 arrives summer 06, hopefully it won't be as long before a third arrives.

Haven't heard a lot about the transformation (by that I assume you mean the frontage work) I'd guess they're about half way to completion.

9 charters to Rome? I can only count 7? One to Ciampino and the other 6 to Fiumicino, as for aircraft types, not sure, probs just A320/737 as you suggested.

Any Barcelona route will be operated by bmibaby and certainly not by Ryanair, Brussels is a possible new route with Eastern Airways.

Ryanair pulled the Rome route because of lack of passengers I believe, also, the Bristol route is dropping to 2x daily and the Sunday service cancelled too.

A week or so back mfc.co.uk mentioned that they had booked a "2nd 280 seater aircraft for the official fans trip", so there are at least 2 ac bigger than the usual 737/320's used.

MME-CIA was replaced with SNN-CIA. I suspect MME was the weakest route with a CIA based aircraft so it was the route dropped to make way for SNN

easyJet do 3 daily rotations on NCL-BRS (2 on Sats) and the route is the busiest one between two English provincial cities in terms of pax numbers.

They carry around 20,000 to 23,000 pax a month depending on time of year (eg 20,429 in Dec and 22,315 in Aug of last year), giving an average loading in excess of 80%.

I travelled the route yesterday and there were few empty seats in either direction.

Contrast this with Eastern's 631 pax on MME-BRS in December.

Probably not comparing like with like because Eastern have a different business model and their fares tend to be relatively expensive, aimed mainly at the business market.

All figures quoted are CAA stats.

I have used the Eastern service and it was very uncomfortable, it is aimed at Orange employees as the company has 4 of its biggest call centres in Darlington, there were about 10 people on the flights that I took. I used to use the Easyjet flight to NCL but this meant an overnight stay and the Eastern flight times meant I could fly up a 5 minute taxi ride to my destination from the airport and back at Bristol airport by aprox 19:00. As I said the J31 was very noisy and very uncomfortable.
