With Newcastle gaining an extra Dublin and Leeds having serveral flights a day to Dublin isn't it about time MME got another flight to Dublin each day. The market seems to be there. Is this due to the airlines favouring Leeds and Newcastle or the fact that MME just haven't got the staff to put together a deal to attract the business. Come on Ryanair you owe the airport an extra route, remember Rome and it's 9000+ a month.
Anyway any news on the winter routes from bmibaby? Willthey keep it a two aircraft base for the winter?
Will the Amsterdam go to four times a week?
Is there any chance of a Belfast or any other new destinations?

The once daily FR 738 to DUB is ample for the market.

MME is in a completely different league to LBA and NCL, and will always live in their shadow.

I DO think that FR could operate a MME-GRO successfully, they manage to do it daily from BLK!

Amsterdam is due to go 4 times DAILY for the winter, all F70 a/c.

Flybe. would be perfect for the BHD route with the Q400, but it isn't likely anytime soon.

Regards

Mike

See we always knew it was the best airport in the north!

I don't think KLM to AMS is going 4 daily. The 4th flight was on their website last month, but it certainly isn't there now. (not that I can see). Has it been transferred it to Humberside instead??

Total passenger figures up 26% in April 2006, over 2005, which is very good news. Malaga up 39%, Palma up 86% and Alicante up 14%, but scheduled passengers to ALC went from 2324 in Apr 05 to 5128 in 2006. (charter pax to ALC well down)

I have my worries about Dublin, especially with Aer Lingus starting up the road. 7066pax in April which is up 28% year on year, but it is the lowest figure for airports with one Ryanair flight a day, eg Blackpool 8015, Bournemouth 7724, Doncaster 8282, and Aberdeen 8475! We can live in hope that Ryanair get upset with NCL allowing Aer Lingus to fly Dublin and transfer the flights to MME!

Re the bmibaby Jersey problems, I wonder if bmibaby had just cancelled the flights they would have got less bad publicity. It seems to me that they tried their hardest to get the pax there.

APRIL 2005 Vs APRIL 2006

Good to see the increases in pax nos but I think Easter was in April 2006 and in March 2005 so the comparison is not like for like. May will probably be a better indicator. But with 2X BMI baby A/c now based there must be a 100% increase on there flights alone.

Well I got an e-mail from bmibaby saying timetables are released on Friday and that the winter routes are on the bmibaby website.

On a slightly off-topic note, have bmibaby stopped expanding? They seem to have downsized for the winter and they have no aircraft on order?

It looks to me like theyve stopped expanding, i see Knock is off the menu for the winter then! - I guess no new routes on the horizon for the Winter from DTV - and how likely is it that a 3rd BMI Baby aircraft will head to DTV for the summer - there is so much more that could be achieved from DTV, where is a winter Ski to Geneva / Lyon or a Prague or something else apart from the usual destinations!

This is pure speculation on my part but I think it will be two based aircraft for the winter. The reason I believe this is that the current timetable for the summer has 6 a week to Gatwick and daily to Paris. I really can't see them reducing these for the winter (although stranger things have happened at bmi and bmibaby). That would leave just 8 rotations a week if it were just one aircraft, one of those would be to Jersey like last winter leaving 7 rotations split between 4 destinations, which would be lower fequencies compared to the previous winter. Another problem they would have is they would also have too many aircrew based at MME for one aircraft and would have to relocate some.
I believe that there will be two based aircraft with twice a day services to Gatwick and Paris which would leave about 14 rotations a week to be split between the other 5 destinations. Maybe there will be room even for a Geneva in Jan and Feb if for instance the one aircraft does Paris Malaga Paris and the other does Gatwick Jersey Geneva Gatwick or something along those lines.

We used to have both Geneva and Prague with bmibaby. I have no idea why Prague stopped as it was fairly popular I believe.

We need more services into Europe from MME! More options into France would be ideal (Flybe maybe?), plus some option into Germany and Scandinavia.

I agree that Ryanair should try another route - either somewhere fairly safe like Gerona, or try out a route to one of their Eastern European hubs. The only local competition to Eastern Europe is Budapest from NCL.

I believe the baby routes for the winter (this is purely my speculation nothing official!!) will be as follows

Alicante - 3x weekly
Cork - 2x weekly
Gatwick - 6x weekly
Jersey - 2x weekly
Malaga - 6x weekly
Palma - 3x weekly
Paris - 10x weekly

Giving 32 rotations a week, with 10 left over for 2 new routes, possibly Geneva and Toulouse

None of the bmibaby routes will go to 2x daily, I just cannot see it, and as for new routes, we'll have to wait until next summer at the earliest.

According to the BMIBABY Website its the following

4x Weekly Alicante
7x Weekly Paris CDG
3x Weekly Palma
6x Weekly London Gatwick (except during November when they fly Saturday's - is this a trial?!)
7x Weekly Cork?!
5x Weekly Malaga

Looks like Knock/Jersey non op and Newquay obviously stopped for the winter.
No news yet on BMI to heathrow.

Yes interesting, also 3x weekly Geneva from 16th December, as predicted

1105/1410 MME-GVA WW4683 --3--6-
0705/1010 MME-GVA WW4683 ------7
1450/1555 GVA-MME WW4684 --3--6-
1040/1145 GVA-MME WW4684 ------7

Gives 35 rotations per week, still plenty of slack for more routes?

7x Weekly Cork?!
They bmi baby are probally wanting to take passengers who would have normally wanted to fly with bmi from Leeds to Cork. But now that Main-line have announced that they are dropping the route in July. So LBA is left with no Cork service for the time being.

So makes sence for baby to upgrade the Durham - Cork route to Daily.

Ah right i wondered why there was such a jump in the Cork service as i remember being at MME when one flight was boarding not that long ago and PAX didnt seem that high, but yes it makes sense now. And good news on the Geneva - finally.
Oddly enough ive just had a e-mail from MME about BMIbaby winter routes and they quote that Jersey is operating but on the baby website it doesnt show it (although the baby website always seems out of date to me!)

Yeah bmibay have said that they will be doing Jersey this winter. Offically the routes aren't bookable from MME till tomorrow so maybe Jersey will be added. There is still 7 rotations a week spare roughly so there could still be extra services to be added.
