According to the Wales Air Network fraternity, there is some interest in ASW from a billionaire former Welsh airline owner and a multi-millionaire current Welsh airport owner, who have worked together in the past. On the up-side, they would want to expand ASW's bases and remove the "South" tag. On the down-side, they can't get reliable go-betweens or figures, it is suggested. Meanwhile, there is only one deal on the table which isn't that exciting to Sutton, apparently. Hence the lack of progress.

Any information about any sale has to be released once the stock exchange has closed, then the staff forum and committee reps/management will be informed.

Although I heard about the sale first on the local BBC news so anyones guess I suppose.

Amazing how you get your information about only one other deal on the table. What is your source?

a billionaire former Welsh airline owner
This is just fantasy. I know the gentleman in question from an airline viewpoint probably about as well as anyone does, and he is certainly NOT a billionaire. Also, I do not think for a single second that he is interested in losing another shedload of money on the airline business.

The "Wales Air Network fraternity" would do well not to speculate wildly like this, it does little for their reputation.

Cloud1,

How is my post any different to yours in post #607???

I was simply pointing out the fact that, whilst Flybe may have some reliability issues, Air Southwest also have the same.

As fantastic a niche airline ASW may be, they are far from perfect. Trust me, i know first hand!

If the Welsh reference is to RGDT then suggest checking the "Where are they now" forum.

Not really, just redressing the balance. No point in slating flybe all the time is there?? Flybe's a good airline.....simple!

Thank goodness someone is up to speed, as is just goes to show how those who have commented about a possible interest you RGD are mis-informed and some 3 weeks behind the times.

presumably anyone looking to buy a cheap regional operator can speak to Arrann's examiner . 2 Euros should be enough by all reports.

This could be a red herring but I believe Eastern Airways have been down to Plymouth today and have had negotiations with SHH over buying ASW.

No red herring there. I think Dickys lost the plot but you gotta admit he's still here and lots of other airlines arent so who am i to argue. Always liked the Q300 too.

Nope,

Can't say i know a purchase has gone through. - sorry need to be clearer here. Just aware there were a number of genuinely interested parties. How it's gone on since then - but would assume it must be getting close. And fingers crossed the outcome will be postive.

Regards

Yes indeed, fingers (and everything else) crossed the outcome IS positive!

If I were to hazard a guess, if there still are more than one interested parties;
One option will be better for the future of the ASW brand, it's staff, the airports it serves, the people of the southwest and exciting for everyone involved...
The other will be better for SHH's bank balance!

With the years of profit and the sale of the airport land ("to invest in the future of the airport and airline") never mind significantly raising the PLC turnover, SHH hasn't done too badly really.

It's all down to the morals of big business so let's wait and see...

Morals Maybe

I suspect from looking at the notes for SHH, that indeed ASW has been good for them. But the last 2 years have been a pig.

I also suspect there is very good potential for the airline, and yes, with some real vision at the top, they are - and could be a really great tidy airline.

Sadly there are not a lot of banks/private equity houses around will to fund any airline right now. Ironically this is set against a back drop of a number of airline reporting very positive figures. (obviously certain ATR operators not included).

My final suspicion would be SHH will make a good decision, they still live in Plymouth!

Cheerio

I thought the Eastern deal was dead in the water a long time ago. I can't see it being beneficial for either airline, or Sutton Harbour's bank balance. Would it be more likely that the Eastern management were in Plymouth to discuss the existing codeshare agreement/strategic alliance/special relationship etc??

I could always be wrong though....

Unfortunately ASW is not one of those (very few) airlines reporting good results. In fact, exactly the opposite.

Therein lies the problem.
