MA Management Restructure
Further update on MA's ongoing management structure (according to the Manchester Evening News yesterday).

Airport jobs slashed - despite profits
Jobs are being slashed at Manchester Airport despite record profits just a year ago. It is believed up to 115 jobs could be at risk. Of those 39 could go completely, while 76 jobs could change. But it is not clear how each department will be affected. The airport made record £94.8m profits in 2004-05 and passenger figures have hit 22 million. No one from the airport was available for comment. The move comes six weeks after bosses announced the departure of managing director John Spooner. Chief executive Geoff Muirhead revealed then that there would be a restructuring and two directors and two senior managers left at the start of this month.
Pressures
An airport spokesman said at the time: "All business is increasingly subject to constant change and new pressures." Staff feared job losses were in the pipeline because there was a doubling-up of roles in some departments.
The restructuring sees the end of the two separate businesses,Manchester Airport plc and Manchester Airport Aviation Services, which ran the airport.
Manchester Airport plc managed airfield operations and the terminals, aviation development, commercial development, communications, information services, planning and the environment. MAAS, meanwhile, looked after security, the car parks, occupational health, engineering, human resources, the fire station and Ringway Handling Services.
Manchester Airports Group is taking on the commercial activities of both former units. A new business called Manchester Airport Services and Operations is managing the other functions.

Shamrock.......
I've been told different, apparently over 100 jobs are 'affected' by the restructuring at Manchester Airport, but 70+ new jobs have been created - therefore upto 40 jobs could go. Apparently, a similar process is about to commence at the other airports in the Manchester Group.

I thought Thai were concentrating on regional routes at the mo, having just announced Jo'burg admittedly. Berlin and Manchester put on hold for the time-being.
But I wonder, having just waved bye bye to MH, might MAN bosses have gone pleading to TG to bring it on?

Can anybody explain why the direct JFK flight using the new 777s are still dropping into MAN ?
Also another thought regarding MH, they recently dropped their pure freighter service (op Air Atlanta, I think) due to belly capacity on the passenger flights. With the demise of those, are Manchesters freight managers chasing the reinstatement of the freighters ?

PIA are using the B777ER for Toronto, then a "few" others, down from 58/month to 36/month..I think. MH still using the Air Atlanta Frightener AFAIK. Etihad, low pax inbound, but good freight [20 tonnes] 230+ pax o/bound today.
For the "Spotters" the new skyEurope B737 was in today

Hope the pax are strapped in those trains the G force would fantastic
It all depends on wether you get a stopper or fast train, even so a lot easier than driving and no problem parking ( not the train that is )
With regard the Etihad it will take a couple of weeks to pick up on the inbound as people start returning

Train is the best way into town. About 15 mins or 20 mins depending on time of day and if it's a stopper or direct. Cost about £3 return.
www.manchesterairport.co.uk or http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/ for timetables etc.
MAPLC is scrapping 115 jobs and creating 76 new ones. While this means 39 net redundancies (on good ££ terms if you've been there a while) the rumour is that management want more than 39 to go, as they will want to fill as many as possible of the 76 with fresh new outside people, not from the pool of displaced staff.
Many of the new jobs will be at lower wages. None of the senior managers who survive unscathed despite being the architects of the last (discredited) restructure will lose pay, especially Muirhead, Burns et al. Reflect on that, with a calm and peaceful mind of course.
You thought the last restructure was ruthless? This one will clear all the legacy staff and replace them all with keen underpaid youngsters who'll do anything for anyone. Bye bye loyalty, experience etc.
