L1011 Aoc

Does anyone know of an airline (defunct or operating) that I can negotiate a temporary deal with to operate an L1011 on flights from JFK to Africa and back?

We are in the process of getting our home AOC location up to Category 1 standards, put this is a long and expensive process.

Can anyone assist.?

Thanks,

Rick

HUH?

What do you mean. Many companies do ACMI as well as strike deals to operate other companies aircraft.

Why is this unusual at all?

L1011 is very old so why on earth with fuel at its present level would you want to operate a fuel guzzeler. America to Africa needs a African or American airline to provide ACMI and Licence coverage and I cannot imagine anyone being stupid enough to get invoved. But this is aviation and no doubt there is a lid to your saucepan out there somewhere. I wish you well and will buy a seat on your first flight. Just let me know the time and date and I will be there. I will be seventy soon so I do not have a lot of time, hurry up!!

If you are serious may be you should pm this person sure he will point you in the right direction.

You will have to ignore the other posts they appear to lack the ability to enter into sensible conversation

I thank you for your intelligent reply.

I have read a VERY long thread here about some folks that may or may not have been setting up an L10-11 based airline in Ireland o someplace.

I assure you we are not a startup. Simply a reactivation of an ACMI based airline.

I know the limitations and issues regarding Tristars and are working on basic solutions for all of them. These aircraft were designed with a 30 year life limit at a normal airline workload. They will last at least a few more years!

If you want to contract on an ACMI basis you have to have an AOC, if you do not have an you have to be a licenced tour operator. Or you persade some airline to operate using their flight prefix, take all the financial risks and hope it does not go wrong. BWA did this for Warren in Italy and Franco in Luton and where are they now!!!!

Not the route for an arline to make good business me thinks.

There are still some Portugeese registered L1011s. Don't know the operator.

It seems TransAtlantic Airlines is reactivating some ex-Delta L-1011's at Victorville.

One of them is N723DA:

Now I ask... If TAA wants to make flights from JFK to West Africa destinations, why choosing L-1011-1??? This aircraft doesn't even have transatlantic range!

Nevertheless it would be nice to see those TriStars flying again.

Best luck for TAA.

So what if the aircraft was built to last 30 years. It may be mechanically "sound" but on the kind of utilisation you're looking at - how expensive?

And when something goes bang and you have to wait weeks for a part to be manufactured by Lockheed, will you continue revenue service with a sub'd aircraft? That will cost a bit! Dont get me wrong, vintage aircraft can be commercial viable but I think this kind of operation will break beyond that point?

I think someone might be mixing business with emotion here.

I seem to remember that the L-1011 burns 8 Tons/hour. Compared to the 747-200 at 12 tons/hour, that is not bad economy when it can carry 80% of the 747's pax load.
