LONDON CITY
Both VLM and EASTERN seem to be interested in this route. VLM for a 3 x daily M - F service and EASTERN for a 4 x daily J41 service plus 1 on Sundays, both were for a 6th June start. This seems too close now but hopefully one or the other may go ahead at some stage.

It has been very quiet regarding new routes this year. The only definite we have is the new easyJet aircraft arriving later this year so we should have an announcement over the summer.

Should be an Icelandic 767-300 operating the first First Choice Airways flight to Sanford on the 29th May.
Reg=TF-FIA operating NCL-SFB only as the return is empty

Good news if this date of 6th june is correct.
Been looking at an acl timetable and the route should have started with VG at the end of march the reason why it was shown on the arrivals board ect..
Maybe lack of aircraft until now?

Guys, it's only a month into the summer season. I think there's a lot to come this year.
I think the following routes may be announced this year:
Stuggart - Has been on the arrival and departure boards at NCL with HLX, hopefully it comes true.
London City - Eastern, VLM, EuroManx maybe? Both airports are working hard. Here's an e-mail I received a few weeks ago:
New York - It has been going around for a long time, I think this is the year it's announced.
Ryanair - Don't know destinations wise. We are a future base according to the Ryanair website.
easyJet - Expected new destinations.
FlyBE - Another airline that has been monitoring the services available from Newcastle.
Some new airline - Have read on another forum (won't say which one) that we should expect an announcement from an low-cost airline soon that will effect a major airline at NCL. My guess this is easyJet, they're really the only one that have a 'major' base at NCL. Infact, their the only LCC with a base at NCL. Maybe Ryanair, FlyBE, Jet2?? This was told to me by a dispatcher from the airport.
I think this year will be quite interesting.

Hi Chris
We have been looking to encourage an airline onto Newcastle and I hope something will be announced soon. Have you signed up for our newsletter via the home page? If not, please do so as route announcements will be notified through this medium first.

Have heard strong rumours from easyjet crew that Ryanair are going to set up base at newcastle in time for the winter.
Great news for passengers if they do but the airport will be ok for the winter with the extra flights but what about in the summer.
If ryanair bring up 4 aircraft say where will they all park in summer 2006? Cant see the airport being able to expand the apron in time??

Could be either to pick up more pax at MAN or for operational reasons i.e. maybe NCL has weight limitations on the aircraft used and it needs to stop an MAN to pick up more fuel, given the longer runway available to service a full plane with a full load of fuel.

Re :- XLA via MAN
It's all very frustrating, those passengers that really don't want anything to do with MAN get a visit imposed upon them. Those of us who would choose not to transit via London & other overseas hubs, to get longhaul connections can't get any convenient access to the place !
I keep reading about all these "new routes" discussed on this forum, some exotic & some that certainly aren't. Basically like it or not to those "diplomats" in the North East seem over the years to one way or another have put up obstacles to any form of airservice to MAN.
When one considers the alternative transport options available & the cost, let alone that no one who conforms to legal speed limits could get there in less than 3 hours (3 hours may itself be a miracle), then something ought to be done !
Long gone are the "Dan Dair" days when they ran a service of sorts, on aircraft you would probably only now find in museums. Surely this has got to be a viable route given types of equipment now available.
The earlier reference to politicians was not a throw away comment, as I believe there was (still is!) a lot of "negative attitude" between the management at Newcastle over potential competition from Manchester that would have affected passenger loads at NCL .
Basiaclly if this was the case, just as is with their retrospective football teams, they need to realise that they are not in the same league & develop accordingly, and in any event the coming of the low cost boom at NCL has in itself surely undermined such concern.

Services to Man from NCL have a chequered history. In the mid 90's Gill used fly a regular, I think about 4 x daily flight, then it was dropped. Eastern was then going to fly it in co-operation with BMI but there something about computer problems between the two and it never materialised.
Since then nothing seems to have happened apart from Easyjet apparently holding slots at Man for a NCL service (didn't happen though).
Would have thought it would be good for BMI Regional to link NCL with its MAN network. It would also give NCL a Star Alliance link.

Northern sprit the train operator used to have a few trains aday going from newcastle to manchester airport. a good few pax on it also done the route many times last summer.
I couldn't see why not as the train used to charged £40 return easyjet could get away with charging around £15 one way plus saving you 2hrs drive.
