FA Cup flights

Return flights still available NCL - EXT, for FA cup weekend, with Flybe Saturday to Monday for GBP 74 incl. taxes. EXT airport is next to the motorway so I'd say you'd be in Cardiff in 2 hours on a good run.

Devonair,

Would it really be worthwhile to fly down to EXT on a single daily service, and then drive back up to Cardiff?

I know EZ are adding an extra rotation too - some seats going for over £100 one way, but afaik no decent link from BRS to Cardiff - bus to city centre, then Wessex rail bus to Cardiff, or change at TM & Parkway? Even getting a taxi to Parkway, then train seems like a lot of hassle.

Would have thought this would be one journey still much better by train all the way. Air Wales would be fine in theory, but no ops on Saturday afaik, and what if that morning flight is down on the Sunday is delayed?

It's an option. Thought GBP 74 return was reasonable. Obviously its up to individuals to decide on travel arrangements, just thought I'd mention it because the fare is quite good. Not bad for people with relatives in Devon or Somerset either.

To get from Bristol Airport to the centre of Cardiff would entail taking the airport coach (runs every twenty minutes) to Temple Meads Railway Station then catching a train (no change at Parkway) which run frequently between Bristol and Cardiff through the Severn Tunnel.

However, for a daytrip to the match I would only do this as a last resort, preferring a direct flight to Cardiff if I could get one.

Where Bristol as a city does win out since the Millennium has been used for major club matches is in attracting fans who can't find accommodation in Cardiff to stay for a weekend. Several thousand usually stay in and around Bristol but this also has its downside because they have been the cause of serious public disorder in the past in the city central areas.

I suspect the extra easy NCL-BRS rotation will do well because this extremely busy route often sells out on some rotations around weekends.

Goind down to BRS on the early morning flight from NCL and coming back on the last flight of the day, will cost you a mere £226 on easyJet

And if you look at the prices for NCL-BRS on the Saturday and BRS-NCL on the Monday they are all between £80 and £100 one way (apart from the third rotation of the day to NCL on the Monday which is 'only' around £60) which bears out my suggestion that many football fans spend the weekend in the Bristol area.

easyJet seem to think so too because of these high fares, although they are often much higher anyway running into and out of weekends than the £25.98 return, including taxes, that I always pay in midweek when I book early.

Also contrast the NCL-BRS fares on the Saturday with those of BRS TO NCL that day when one of the flights can be had for £9.50 including taxes.

I think easy will make a nice big profit that weekend between the Northeast and Southwest, even with the giveaway on the northbound on Saturday evening.

A little more news on the Easyjet a/c No. 7.

quote from John Parkin, Chief Executive
"There will be another aircraft to come from Easyjet. We do not know where that will go yet but will know by the end of September. They only had one aircraft here two years ago and this will be their seventh"

Looks like there's a Sun Air flight in from Billund today and a Star Airlines flight out to CDG as well.
Anyone know the reasons for their visit?

Newcastle Falcons vs Stade Francais.

HH6702

Just to pick up on an earlier point, I don't think Excel will be running separate flights to Skiathos and Volos. When Islandsflug were running the route last year, the pax numbers to Volos would barely fill a J41 let alone a 738. Expect the flights will be combined into one regardless of what the travel agent/brochure might be suggesting. Just hope it all goes a little more smoothly than last summer - what a farce that was with HH.

NEW YORK

Confirmation today that NCL are talking to two US airlines about a link between NY and NCL. Newark and Kennedy are mentioned.

Can't see it happening really. Lots of talk with regionals and US carriers, but they rarely come to fruition. Bristol were very lucky.

I don't think luck played any part in Bristol gaining their COA service, just good marketing and a demand for the service.

Can't see it happening really.
Think this statement will come back and haunt you in 12-18 months time.

BRS does have an excellent management and marketing team, ironically to some extent trained by the John Parkin regime when it ran Bristol Airport.

They also got the route in the face of intense competition from neighbouring CWL.

Looking around the UK regional airports, surely NCL must be odds-on favourites to be the next airport for a New York area connection.

I agree, with over 5 million pax this year, it puts the airport in a new league and gives the Management a realistic chance of securing new airlines and new routes.

Just a simple question: When will somebody build enough runway to operate long haul flights from NCL? Spending money on building shops only means you can make more on shop rents but it doesn't allow an operator to haul more weight off the ground. When will the Muppets who run airports realise that their customers are the airlines, not the pasengers?
