ALPA
Maybe everyone still has the notion that ALPA is still only for SAA and still does not trust ALPA like the old days when they took your money but did not really want to know you if you did not work for SAA.
Or maybe the salaries at 1 Time are that bad that a married copilot cannot afford to join and have enough at the end of the month.

Maybe 1Time is only six years old. Maybe the rumours of catering, salaries, rosters and the like are true.......BUT, they have never had to bear the brunt of two crashes in the SAME year!
Chill out on their training department.

....er, no mate, I'm STILL not going... I know people want us to leave the airline in order to prove some convoluted point, but - er - nah, I think I'll stay thanks. Anyway, where would you suggest I go?

1) The grass is greener on the other side for one reason, and one reason only... it's fertilised more by the amount of $h!t spoken about it!
2) When you get to a job.. you start with a bucket in each hand - one gets filled with cash, the other with bullsh!t. When either is full... it's time to leave.
3) Never, ever forget - when you find your new job... always compare it to your last... you left your last job for a reason.. and you took this one for a reason.
You have to be happy somewhere...
4) Airline management is the same.... no matter where you go. No matter the spin weaved to you, no matter the stories and tales.. in the end.... if you choose to B1tch... YOU lose. Be happy with your choice, but don't stop enjoying your passion! FLYING!
Disconnect and drive as often as you are allowed!

No, if you choose to bitch, and you are in your final job of choice (ie you could make a career of this one), then just do it in a concerted, organised and logical fashion. Just remember, sometime pilots actually care more about the ultimate outcome of an airlines operation than management (ie not crashing, long term survival of the company, maintaining experience levels, maintenance etc). Really. Just ask ex-Nationwide (et al) pilots. Quite frankly, it's a pilots job to look critically and constructively at the company he or she works for. Anything less is a disservice.

I don't think anyone is leaving or getting upset just because of crewmeals. That said, the quality and amount of the food is atrocious: 1 hot meal of questionable quality (sometimes inedible) loaded for an 11 hour duty day, but if you have more than a 1h30 turnaround anywhere forget a crewmeal. You can go into the terminal and buy it yourself. You wait for 30 minutes after being away from home on a 3 day for the bus to take you to Ops to sign-off. You may only get 1 weekend off per month (if you are lucky) on a 75 to 90 hour roster. Not a problem if you are single, but a big issue if you have a wife and kids. How about leave not getting approved for months on end, or having to apply for leave now for next year already...otherwise you don't get leave! What about the pathetic flight-watch system that gets treated (illegally) like a home-reserve until the pilot in question puts his foot down? What about being delayed day after day and recieving endless duty changes whilst trying to live your life? Are these issues not worth getting worked up about? Of course not, beacause I will be leaving within the next year because I am not having fun at all. Some folks will come with me.
Get a job working in a grocery store. Or in a restaurant, or as a medical intern in a hospital (after 7 years of univeristy, by the way), or an entry level programmer, or anything else you can think of.
When you start out, you can't expect to be at the top of the heap, and companies everywhere will treat you like dirt.

Excuse me but being in one of the main domestic carriers in SA, even 1Time is far from just 'starting' out. It's not an entry level position.
Most airline pilots have already cut their teeth for years in instruction and deepest darkest Africa before getting the chance to work in SA. Is a decent quality of life too much to ask for?
And no I'm not a 1Time driver either.

who's talking starting out.
Get a job in the grocery business, and after 20 years, guess what - same stuff.
Become a doctor, and after you've done 7 years post secondary school, and 5 years intership - guess what - same stuff
the "dream" of being treated well by an employer went out in the 60's.

Oops. Sorry. Should have put the word AND between the two thoughts.
Thought one.
Even people who have years and years of experience and several advanced degrees are suffering the same treatment at their jobs. This is not unique to the airline industry.
Second thought.
I see many "new" pilots expressing themselves in a way that indicates they are just starting out, and expect to jump to the top of the ladder on their first or second job. That's not the way the world normally works.

Heard that 1Time did interview in the previous 2 weeks, was it for Capt`s or FO positions, and that it was only crew for Cape Town base, which will mean less night stops? Seems like 1Time might have started to implement changes like these to address the issues that their crew were complaining about?

They are not listening to their Cape Town crews, they don`t have any yet, they are starting a Cape Town base, so candidates from Cape Town were in Jhb for an interview. They already have permanently based cabin crew in Cpt, now they doing same with flight deck crew! It will minimize night stops for Jhb based crew! So actually they paid attention to what the Jhb crew were saying about too many night stops! By establishing a Cpt base they minimize costs for hotel acc for nights stop crew! Now everybody is HAPPY..
