Just flown back from LOS on the A330. Business class good service but the seats are dreadful - no recline and quite hard - premium economy at best. Arik were offering 50% off next J class travel vouchers when checking in at LHR on the OB leg.

Looks like the money train has run out. As of end of OCT no more ABV flights into LHR.

Was Arik leasing BMI slots into Heathrow for the ABV sectors?
I find that hard to swallow considering the BASA between Nigeria and UK is based on reciprocity and dual designation; and the UK has 21 slots into Nigeria already.

DRPAM007,
Slots and BASA are two different things and should never be confused. Even if the BASA allows Arik or any other Nigerian airline to operate into the UK, they still have to source slots to do it.
You can't just show up at Heathrow and say I have been designated by my Government based on the BASA to operate into Heathrow.
The UK does not have "21 slots" into Nigeria as no Nigerian airports are slot controlled.
The UK has 14 frequencies into Lagos shared between BA and VS, and BA operates another 7 frequencies into Abuja which is reciprocal to the Arik service.
You could theoretically start an airline in Nigeria tomorrow and ask the
Government to allow ( designate) you as the Nigerian beneficiary of the 7 outstanding frequencies from Lagos to London but you would have to get slots
either from Heathrow or from Gatwick ( or any London airport) to operate them- Go ask Air Nigeria. They wanted to go into Heathrow but the slots were prohibitively expensive which is why they decided on Gatwick.
Not sure where they are with that, because they were planning on a September launch and we're almost at the end of September.

Stop the service at the end of Oct just before the Xmas heavy rush 6 weeks later when Nigerians typically start to travel for the festive period and start buying up the whole of London shopping wise to bring items back to Nigeria for Xmas..as always good business sense by Arik

No decision made by Arik management seems anything other than ill conceived. Killing Abjua - LHR might be a sound decision executed at the wrong time.
Is cashflow becoming an issue once again? Hearing that a fairly large group of expat pilots have yet to be paid for August. Any truth to this?

The A345 was on C check in Madrid hence A330 operating so expat salary dependant on how much had to be paid to Iberia to get aircraft back.
Cancelling abuja will save money, even allowing for christmas traffic, will also reduce threat of BAA kicking them out of LHR.
As for slots from bmi, approx $100k a month to lease.
