Pilot Mentor

Hi GUYS,
I am samuelborgar, a member of the forum. Currently I am in the united states acquiring my licenses, and I would like to have a pilot mentor back home in Nigeria as to what the aviation industry entails. I would appreciate it so much if you could help.
Thanks!

Just to clarify from sources I know who were close to the events ..................

VK did not 'divert' any flights for the Hajj. It did have to cancel a LOS-JNB-LOS sched flt due to Presidential panic and a directive for the A340 to operate to JED to bail out the flawed (possibly corrupt?) charter operation of others.

Permission for VK to enter Saudi Arabia was never obtained, but by the time VK were excused operating the flights, there was no govt official available who was senior enough to get ATC to cancel the block on the JNB flight leaving LOS.

It is a farce that a private business was abused in this manner. Why was the Blue Tail 767 that sits around LOS doing sweet FA not used, or was this all during the period Bellview were grounded whilst their operational concerns were addressed?

Hey ho.................... a lesson learned and some positive planning should ensure it doesn't happen again.

Hi Zazoo, A coffee would be good, though the brain cells are slow and I might need a bigger clue as to who I am having coffee with!!

It might have to be in a while though as I will be away from Lagos for a couple of months apart from occassional quick visits.

Hi,

I've just been given the nod that my old training school has been approached to help recruit low hour frozen ATPLs to join VN.

Sounds unlikely to me. Anyone any knowledge?

Cabair at Cranfield.

Further information would appear to suggest that VN have approached them to train cadets although there is still a suggestion they will be taking low hour ATPL(f).

Virgin Nigeria adds Dubai, boosts London Gatwick

In line withs its plans to 'serve 9 international routes within 9 months of start-up', Virgin Nigeria (VK) has announced the launch of the Lagos-Dubai route from May 2, 2006, following the delivery of its 2nd Airbus A340-300.
<http://www.virginnigeria.com/en/ng/press/pr2006-03-08.aspx>
Interestingly, the flight schedules means VK and VS will cross into one another on Saturday in Dubai (both operating the A340).

Vk currently operates 1 733, 2 A320s and 1 A343.
Rumour has it that 2 733s are on the way, 5N-VNB/C.
And 1 A343 G-VSUN to add to their fleet. 1 of the A320s is scheduled to return to country of origin at the end of this month.

My information is that Kano will be served as a route from Lagos with a 'w' pattern flight to Abuja. I am led to believe there are currently no plans to serve London or any other International destination from Kano................. though if demand could be proven
