I guess Virgin are trying to spread themselves amongst all the destinations not being served by all the supposedly-grounded airlines out in Nigeria right now?
Maybe Charles Bronson would be the right man to take over the NCAA!! He would just get in there and thin out all the corrupt officials!!!

Virgin has issued a statement:
Virgin Nigeria airline has announced possible disruptions of some of its domestic flights from Lagos to Abuja and Port Harcourt, following the failure of one of its aircraft to pass rigorous standard test.
A statement by the airline made available to the Daily Trust in Lagos yesterday noted that the airline has withdrawn the affected aircraft from service to carry repairs on it.
The airline’s Chief Executive, Mr. Conrad Clif-ford, said: “The safety and security of our passengers and crew is the Virgin Nigeria’s priority. Following a routine inspection check of our fleet, we discovered that one of the engines of our A320-200 aircraft did not pass our rigorous standard check and we have therefore opted to withdraw the plane from service until repairs have been carried out. The problem will be rectified as soon as possible to enable the aircraft to comply with Virgin Nige-ria’s standards.
“We request customers to bear with us as we work extra-hard to reschedule and re-book as many passengers as we can on the operating services to both Abuja and Port Harcourt,” Clifford said, adding, “Fares would be refunded to passengers who cannot be booked on these flights. We have also recalled off-duty customer service staff to attend to the needs of our passengers who are affected by these disruptions at the airport. Virgin Nigeria would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused.”

From what I hear, seems to me that although the aircraft has been on ground, the NCAA wanted to go to Seattle,WA to audit Boeing even though Boeing has a rep in the VK offices in LOS. They were foot-dragging on validating the Training captains licences(who aren't Nigerian, aircraft is on Nigerian register).
As soon as the latest accident happened, suddenly everything is now moving ahead and the VK 733 pilots are now being checked out before it goes into commercial service.

LJT are you suggesting that if VK was serious they would have found a brown envelope to hasten things along??
There has been no foot dragging by VK in getting their 737-300 flying from my information, but officialdom has been very unhelpful..........if you know how to legally hurry things along then a long career as a senior manager in Nigeria awaits.

Seeing Charles Bronson in Abuja would be something since he is dead after all.

Tired, VS operate from London, VK from Lagos so there is no logical reason why they shouldn't both be starting the routes................ but I cannot confirm or deny the rumour

Judging by the amount of people recently given offers for 2006, i would say, the flood gates have been opened!
The failure rate has suddenly decreased or have VK lowered the standards for new entrants?
Looks like the offers are much better now, the turn down rate has also reduced!
With all thats happening in that region right now, i would imagine that a VK job would be best at the moment!
Funny how life seems to turn out, eh?
Sn?

Loos like the Virgin Nigeria bosses pulled out a full page ad in a Kenyan daily 2 days ago. Are they targeting KQ guys or just Kenyan pilots. Quite funny - it said they were looking for "fun loving Africans" to join up...dunno what that means...
Spoke to a bunch of fellow KQ guys about it who just burst out laughing...
Anyways, good luck to y'all.
Cheers

Brown envelopes are not always the answer in the region, all im saying is, if vk were serious, that airplane would have been flying!
Funny it is how ever so often people think that bribes are the only way forward in Nigeria.
I'm saying that VK's planning was poor, thats all.
However they choose to operate is entirely thier own problem!
I'm done with looking in that direction mate!
Even the kenyans are having a laugh!
Dont you think thats sad?

Looks to me like Vk is trying hard.
They must be desperate to want guys from KQ with no offence meant chaps.
I just think they should focus on what they have and not get all complicated!
Most africans are black! But not all blacks are african!

LongJohnThomas,
>I'm done with looking in that direction mate!<
If you're done, why keep reviving this thread asking for new developments with such keen interest? Sounds like you're tormented with a love/hate relationship with Virgin Nigeria. Make up your mind!
The insider told you the 737 delay is caused by the authorities and not Virgin Nigeria. Is that so hard to imagine ????? Certainly the poor or should I say idiotic planning usually comes from the 'authorities'.

Well, it may seem like desperation going after guys and gals from KQ but I think that I would do the same - a bunch of young guys and gals who are African nationals with jet ratings and a couple of thousand hours in those jets to boot with plenty of experience flying in and around the continent. Unfortunately, I can't imagine a single mainstream KQ pilot applying.
I heard that some of the managers are ex-KQ, the likes of Clarke and Flinders; are they still out there? Come to think of it were they ever there or was it all BS?
Cheers
