The chairman of Virgin Atlantic Airline, Sir Richard Branson has assured Nigerian travelers that Virgin Nigeria would soon get the right to operate the lucrative Lagos –New York route, saying the appr-oval given by the Nigerian Government to an American airline to begin operations on the US-Lagos route may facilitate that.
Branson while urging the US Government to allow a Nigerian carrier fly direct to their country route, however said the US had done every-thing to prevent Virgin Nig-eria from plying the US route, expressing hope that there would be a change.
Branson told newsmen in Lagos on Wednesday that America should not continue to pra-ctice a one-sided open skies policy, which European carriers were resisting.
He noted that even tho-ugh Virgin Atlantic had 49 per cent of shares in Virgin Nigeria, the Nigerian inves-tors had 51 per cent and the company also had a Nigerian chairman which qualified it to fly on the route.
On Virgin Nigeria, Bran-son expressed satisfaction at its performance so far expla-ining that in the last one year, it had been like a baby mo-ving towards maturity.
He expressed delight that the airline was doing well on the domestic route as well as on the regional and Intern-ational routes, plying Johan-nesburg, Ghana and London, noting that it was an airline that made Nigeria proud.
Branson stated that by the end of the year, Virgin Ni-geria would have 1,000 staff, 850 of whom would have been Nigerians trained by the airline.
He said he looked fo-rward to the airline being one of the best in the world, in the next 10-15 years and com-mended Mr. John Adebayo, Virgin Atlantic represe-ntative in Nigeria, for making project a reality.

congratulations VNA and wish you all the best in the future ie new york.
You have given the travelling public renewed hope and confidence, which the other airlines in nigeria had destroyed. You have also brought standards and discipline back into the system and have created a benchmark for others to follow
But PLS do something about the notorious reputation you are fast gaining as been unreliable with on time departures and flight cancellations, its soiling your rep fast

I understand they'll be flying to yola by august and have abandoned the maiduguri route for now due to some little mishap with equipment sent there. I also know that they've ordered 7 733s from GECAS, so we can expect lots happening out there very soon.
The only part of the previous post which matches reality is that there are 7 x 733 on order from GECAS. Not even VK's extremely talented, charming and gifted roll out team could open the route by August. ........19 days from now!!!
What equipment was damaged?? For sure it wasn't any VK equipment!!!
Now where are the bullets I have some shooting to do

anjouan VK already fly non stop to Dakar!!!! check the website and book online!!
I'm told there are a range of routes that have been evaluated and you might be right with some of those you mentioned.

Virgin Nigeria financial performance
The Virgin Nigeria business model cannot be expected to turn a profit at such a young age (1 year). What is happening, according to some sources, is that VK is performing relatively well on domestic routes, while international routes are shaky.
This is to be expected. The Nigerian traveling public desperately needed an international standard carrier to supplement Aero's and to a lesser extent Bellview's services. Patronage would not take long to build-up.
On the international front however, fierce competition is expected from British Airways, Emirates, South African Airways, etc. Given the short period since introduction of long haul flights, low load factors are expected. I believe I have read a VK statement a few months back, pointing to 2008 as the target for overall break-even. A lucrative new service to New York would help accelerate that, along with the Frequent Flyer Program expected for launch next month and some other incentives to woo international travelers.
Of course had VK been your typical, under-funded, tribally backed start-up, it would have shut-down already as the local mentality is to spend a Kobo and expect a Naira tomorrow.

Internationally competition is also bloody strong from the much sexier.....................Virgin Atlantic on Lagos to Heathrow rather than Virgin Nigeria to Gatwick. There is no code share or revenue share here, it is one against the other.
Hey Skipness, the VK female cabin crew are way sexier than the VS crew, plus they smile when they speak with you. The VS crew who have been mentoring them speak very highly of the way the VK crew interact with the passengers, and that is high praise indeed.
It would need a female to comment on whether the guys are sexy, but they do smile when serving passengers.
You want sexy, fly VK
