Hmmm, interesting, first time i,ve heard that change of management personnel in an airline signifies the end of that airline.
i,d rather be optimistic and wish them well, cos their survival is a plus for their employed pilots and the aviation industry in general

Your scaremongering advice does no one favours, thanks but no thanks, VK is still afloat and it's full speed ahead ahoy

That's odd if you say new MD because when I was with them they didn't have an MD so that bit of info is wrong. The first CEO left ages ago and I am not aware that the present CEO has changed.

As for a few of the other senior positions, they were filled by secondees from Virgin Atlantic and it was always planned that they would probably change after the first phase was completed.

Happy and safe flying everyone.

I heard that the flight departed Lagos yesterday but turned back when it was refused permission to land. Flights are not normally allowed to land at NAF Base after 1900 without permission and the only night flights there normally are Aero's helicopters carrying out night recency training for their emergency night standby crews. I guess Arik may just have been able to get in before dark but would never have made it off again - I'm surprised they departed Lagos at that time in the circumstances. Their 1400 flight from NAF this afternoon also taxied back in with some kind of technical problem. Interestingly I see that the NAF Base runway lights are nearly ready for use and the NDB is working much of the time, though it tends to be a bit erratic. I guess this is working up to some kind of limited clearance for night operations.

I've said it many times before and will say it once more!
VK's incoming 767's are 18-year old aircraft (Air Canada left-overs) lacking PTVs and the basics of any Virgin-brand interior features. The lack of PTVs will surely have a serious effect on load factors and Eaglefliers will start migrating out to BA KL AF LH etc. I predict SA will push VK out of JNB and regarding DXB, dream on. To add shock to all of this, the contract is for 6 years!?!
I doubt anyone out there in VK management is listening but just in case: it's not too late to put an extra Kobo to get decent metal.

Rani KLM uses the MD11 on lagos route and they dont have PTV in economy. That does not seem to affect their load factor!

KL is incomparable to VK.

True the older KL planes dont have PTVs however KL has a great product, interesting fares, and above all an unbeatable network and connection possibilities through AMS!

In contrast whas IS the VK product? Just food for thought.

Even taking the time to scroll through the Topic headings would provide big clues as to where this info has been posted before ;-)

vk think thrice and think hard about such equipment without mordern entertainment systems.
i recently flew on delta out of london to newyork on similar equipment(B767-300 without private entertainment systems) and delta is out of my list of approved airlines,as i dont have the neck of an ostrich.
This is one of the reasons i wont touch KLM especially out of lagos, cause they dont have this entertaimnet systems, coupled with one of the rudest cabin crew known to mankind...debate for another day
thats the airline femi fan should be dealing with ie KLM

In my opinion any airline in the year 2007 that wants to operate flights of up to six hours without a private entertainment system is either a comedian or does not want to face reality, the easy way and you will learn the hard way.
PENNY WISE?.................LISH
but then again how cheap is the ticket??????????
that may sway me!!!!
besides vk is fast gaining the reputation of been the masses airline,on the london route and BA the prefered for the elite
and BA has responded with a massive slash on baggage allowance
so if VK can fly for real cheap, and massive baggage allowances load factors may rise

I am missing something here. Who is going to operate these 767s on behalf of VK?

Astraeus, 6 year contract.

What happens to VK's A340 cockpit crew? Mystery.

What is VK's long-term fleet strategy? The million dollar question

I dont think its Astraeus. The A340 and a limited number of the B737 cockpit crew will be retrained on the B767.
