Virgin Nigeria Flies to JNB from November

Gentlemen,

Looks like VK will launch flights to Johannesburg starting November, with three weekly flights initially! This is good news for travelers facing constant SAA flight overbookings!

An anonymous company looking for 737-300 engineers, maybe it's VK? Contract starts October.

and EAS, Sosalito et al are rumoured to be getting some as well

Whatever and whoever, it shows that there is already a step change in Nigerian aviation as a result of the impact Virgin Nigeria is having, and it is a positive change. The public response to VK has been excellent, and lo and behold Zazoo suggests that far from giving up, another Nigerian airline might be looking to up grade.

With regards to 737-300s, Aero is supposed to have gotten or be getting 2 machines about now (aug 15 was original ETA), i believe the pilots have gone for sim. Bellview is aiming at getting -700s by the end of the year or early next year but might settle for 733/4/5 . Sosoliso is geting 2 X MD80 series + 1 X DC9, they wet leased a B733 some months back so i wouldn't rule them out. Chanchangi is also rumored to be phasing out the 727s and replacing them with 737-300, but that might be early next year.

Potential VK pilots have started going for sim checks (since monday this week), Good luck to everybody. The main cabin crew recruitment process has also started.

VK has positively woken up the rest of the operators from their slumber. If the plans they have on aircraft acquisitions comes to pass then as i have mentioned earlier in previous posts, Mr & Mrs Joe Bloggs and family will surely benefit greatly.

This from the bush telegraph, I am told that the recruitment phase is well and truly under way on the pilot front, with successful pilot being offered course dates as early as October and the T&C's the envy of pilots on the continent. I must say VK do keep the good work up if there is any truth to it. We all know what the bush telegraph is like, Chinese’s whispers more like .
Those in the know an update will be appreciated. Good Luck guys

Oh for those interested check out the web site. They are still looking for crews

Could anyone positively confirm VKs pay package? There are conflicting rumors, initially we heard that the pay was superb but word on the street now is that the pay is crap. The first batch of pilot have already left for the Uk for training. Any news on when the a/c will be arriving will be appreciated.

The grapevine said the initial batch of 737-300s will start arriving in October for training flights, with revenue flights starting a month later.
Could anyone confirm?

More Questions..

What happened to Douala, Dakar, and JNB? At this rate of destination openings, I doub't VK will serve 9 destinations by March 2006.

Also the fall schedules haven't been announced. I trust the A340 will be replaced by VK's own equipment (possibly ex VS aircraft customized to VK product and interiors).

Meanwhile, signs of a hub operation are appearing with significant transit volume on ACC-LHR and ACC-Domestic markets.
Well done VGN.

And the ultimate question: JFK ??

where VK's 733s are coming from?
TOKUMBO's
Rumour has it, that they will be coming from a UK based Orange Low Cost airline. Guess they will be suitable and will get the job done. The state at which they will be in, will be an other matter. Anyway, anything goes in Nigeria

we heard that the pay was superb but word on the street now is that the pay is crap.
Pay peanuts and get monk@ys. Pilots will get the type rating and the magic 500 hours plus and go else where.
A word of advice VK, beware, Nigerians are not stupid, you can bond them a life time, and the problem will be getting your money back. It will take a life time getting it back using the courts you know what they are like. So pay them well and keep them, it is cheaper in the long run.

Good to see you back Oyindo, and good to see you still don't know what is happening at VK

Seeing as the UK Orange airline is all one class squeeze them in and never mind the legroom, it doesn't take tooooooo much imagination to work out that just maybe they will have an interior refit to operate 2 class services for VK (if that is where they are coming from?)

Maybe you work for the Nigerian airline that has frayed seat covers, overhead lockers sealed with locking wire, tray tables that are broken and a carpet that looks as if it has never been cleaned, and that is why you cannot raise your sights higher.

As for the salaries, I am told that they are very good when the whole package is looked at.

Just checked the pilot application (.DOC file).

If VGN is asking for the identities of past employers and past salaries, then we can assume (?) that VK is adopting an Emirates-style approach where the salary offered slightly surpasses past pay packages. This would mean that Nigeria-based pilots applicants should expect a less-than-hoped for compensation...

Oh well, there is always room for a pay raise for the ones who deserve it.. Business is Business

Surely Not, I just reset my message box

SN,
Spot on mate. Maybe you can help me raise my sights a little higher and tell us all where the B737-300 are coming from as you seem to be in the know.
I believe the Nigerian travelling public deserves the very best and not hand me downs. What happened to the promise of the brand new state of the art aircraft? I don’t think the B737-300 meets that criteria.

Oyindo pleeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaasssssssssssssseeeeeeeee don't make me laugh so hard!!!! Who has the brand new aircraft then?

I didn't say where they were coming from.............I said that if they were from a UK loco they would need to have an interior refit for the VK product.

Those in the airline who sourced the aircraft would know far better than me the pros and cons of why, when, where fo the B737-300 decision but I guess, and I am guessing, price and availability of A320's might have been a factor?

Judging from the tone of your posts I think I might have known your sister
