I may regret making this comment ,but I agree with the Chuk chap. This is unacceptable behaviour and the chaps that committed it MUST be sanctioned by Nigerias civil aviation authority as soon as possible.

What, you mean that if crews are not allowed to behave in an unprofessional manner and just film when they should be flying an approach, aircraft could be grounded . Maybe this was the video being made by the Arik crew who couldn't find the NAF Base, Port Harcourt?

In all fairness

In all fairness to Arik Air, these pilots are employed by Denim Air on a wet lease to Arik Air. As such, Denim Air procedures (or lack of) are to blame. Having said that, it probably should be of interest to the Arik Quality Assurance dept.

HST,

You're quite right. I'd have thought it should be of some interest to Denim Air's Quality department as the aircraft are on wet lease and Denim's continuing to be the provider of this service might be dependent on the quality of service provided by their crews to both Arik and Virgin. It's no good people coming here with a superior 'I know it all' attitude.

Both yes and no. I believe Denim Air's contract with Arik Air will end when Arik receives the Q400s (said to be sometime this year) nomatter how good or bad their performance has been over the contract period.

To the issue of the video: We have all, at some point, pulled out the camera in the cockpit, and we would not make any comments to it. But shooting a video is a different ball game. Flashing it on YouTube is in my mind nothing less than stupid, and is certainly not going to enhance your CV for the two young pilots.

Re: ARIK

All I can say is " if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck then it must be a duck"... As far as your interviews in London, From my experience the results were transmitted to Lagos within 72 hrs, but the DO is really slow in getting the final confirmation to employ.
I would "Strongly" recommend that you consider 'ALL" the PRO's and CON's before committing to ARIK. There is another strong Parrallel force that is controlling, which has a decided effect on every aspect of things in Nigeria.
"BonChance' on your decision.
CH.

I wonder if the move went smoothly ?

I see on Aviation Job Search Arik are having a big recruitment spree for a Deputy Flight Ops Manager, General Manager Procurement, Finance Manager London, Deputy Chief Operating Officer and a replacement for the Current Operations Control Centre Manager amongst the others listed on the Arik website.

February 15, 2008 Arik Air is moving !

We're moving.... to OLD DOMESTIC TERMINAL !
ArikAir is moving all its domestic flights to the Old Domestic Terminal, Ikeja, Lagos from Monday, February 18, 2008.
Our Accra, Ghana flights and future regional flights will still operate from the International Airport.
Our guests are advised to check www.arikair.com

Thank you for your candid post and i appreciate your non biased opinion of the country based on some regions, guess your wont be flying any airline that has carried out a diversion as all their flights wont land at the planned dest . I have been flying in Nigeria for the past 15 years and have so far not had any bad encounters or met any expat pilot fixed wing who has been assaulted (guess we are just lucky). I do however agree about the chopper guys having a hard time of it but generalising the whole sector based on one part leaves a lot to be desired about your mindset on life.

I hear Arik will get the 4oo afterall, Im not sure if its directly with Arik or a third party! The deal sounds ok at the surface.30/30 with tickets in/out. Money could be better, but the 30/30 with tickets is interesting. I know 3 others from Japan are interested.. Anybody else have further info?
Thanks.

Talking about Port Harcourt hostages are taken every day by rebels. If you see the area of PHC from above you come to the conclusion no one will find you at all as the Niger Delta is all rain forest and can't be controlled by regular troups at all. I only heared as Denim pilots stay or have stayed there overnight the short transport to the hotel is heavily guarded.
To me the country is not civilized and a human live is well worth nothing!!!

I hope I never encounter such a situation. But if I have to choose I'd rather sleep below a railway bridge than engaging in a job in Nigeria
You need not say this about Naija. This is improper as we have a lot of expatriates guys flying in Naija without any probs. Please do you have a good example of such incident. Please visit the country and see a different view to what you feel.

Yes we have probs of infastructure, but we are not hostile to visitors, thats the truth!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
