If you care soooooooooo much about your country, why are you not there trying do something? talk is cheap! you can start with the incredible corruption!!!!

Everyone talks a big game in Nigeria but, NO ONE does anything to solve the problems Hmm........ almost 2 months to get a validation. Now thats what I call a great system! Yeah.... I am going to miss the daily street beatings and dead bodies I saw on the way to work......

1. a atc system thats is stuck in the 1950's (thank God for TCAS)
2. no regard for... you fill in the blanks!
3. navaids that work once in a blue moon
4. no perfomance data! (yep, no flexing for take off) bring your own speed cards. you wont find any on the airplane.
5. no real weather forcasting.
6. no staff training
7. cowboy attitude of doing things
8. us against them attitude (locals towards expats)
I could go on and on. Look, go take a look for yourself and make your own mind up. I did it, survived it, learned a thing or two and now I am just moving on. And I wont even get into the pay issues. I am not saying its all bad there. There are some real nice people I had the pleasure to meet. There are just toooooo many other good jobs out there with companies that treat you like a pro. Good luck!

ohhhh.....and they cant find pilots to safe their lifes. hmm... I wonder why.....

Here we are talking Arik Air, and all of a sudden one person pops up telling us he has been inside the company. And I am not talking about BALEWA, who I believe is an insider without saying it. But outofhereoyibo has been there, seen it done it. What do some of us do....jump in his face and attack him instead of listening to what he says, digest it and make an effort to see the inside of Arik Air. But that, unfortunately, is pprune from time to time.

Guys he is 101% correct except maybe in my opinion item 8.
items 4,6,7 are issues taht are a recurring decimal,in many airlines in Nigeria execpt to a minimal extent (my opinion) in VK.The only way to improve onesself is to accept constructive criticism.Outofhereoyibo has not misreprsented any facts, but the truth hurts!
For starters how many pilots in Arik have not busted duty limitations?
You CANNOT build a world class airline,an envy to all the cowboy way.Lots of airlines have tried and made no headway.koudos to VK who are resisiting the cowboy approach model

outofhereoyibo,
Thank you for taking your precious time to shed some light on the things you noticed.
Like i said before, i don't work for Arik, but do appreciate the fact that you have been open enough to lets us know what your thoughts are, even if it's for the benefit of those who are contemplating a job in Arik.
"If you care soooooooooo much about your country, why are you not there trying do something? talk is cheap! you can start with the incredible corruption!!!!"Again, I'll not spend my time trading words wit you on issues. What i really wanted out of you has been achieved here.
Thanks.

outofhereoyibo I sense a real frustration but disagree with your choice to slander an airline trying against massive odds to set up as an international standard airline out of Nigeria which is a very difficult thing to achieve, ask VK,AFRIJET,AERO and CHAICHANGI.
The MD has a difficult job, give him and his team credit for what they have managed to achieve despite any negative comments posted on this forum.

Arik Air despite the odds have been operating for one year without any major mishap.
Paulo Rodrigues,Mike Mctighe,Arik Air Chief Pilot,Denim Air,Lufthansa Tecnique, and some others too many to mention must be applauded for achieving this.
We understand that Nigerian Aviation has some defficiencies, but NCAA under Dr.Demuren are doing a fantastic job as far as I am concerned.
This is a great time to invest in Nigerian Aviation.
Join us because we are not regretting it.

AVSEC,

Unless you have personally spoken to outofhereoyibo how can you accuse him of slander, since that applies only to the spoken word, not the written word? He's as entitled to express his opinions here as you are and in this case, probably even more so, as he seems to have actually worked for Arik.

As for Arik being an international standard airline, many of my friends still working in Nigeria would totally disagree with you on that point. Just having new aircraft doesn't make them at an international standard. As for Chanchangi being international standard; what a joke .

On what do you base your statement that Dr Demuren is doing a fantastic job? There have been a few small improvements made, but the pace of progress is still snail-like, Port Harcourt International is still closed nearly 15 months after it was initially shut down, and dealings with the NCAA take longer than ever

As far as I can see, it's only the enlightened carriers which have always had good standards, such as Aero and Virgin who have made any real advances. Many of my friends still working in the oil industry, which is the financial mainstay of the Nigerian economy are only permitted to fly with those two companies.

Of course it would be nice to have Port Harcourt Civil back in service, but on a certain way I consider this is not a major issue, as the region is not isolated thanks to the NAF base. Obviously you cannot compare both airports (navaids, terminals, etc..) but at the end, Port Harcourt is conveniently serviced, with a nice competition between the different airlines that hopefully will lead to an improvement in services: timetables (more competitive departure times from P. Harcourt), frequencies, fleet (for example Dash 8-400Qs arriving soon), etc. etc..

It will take a long time to bring nigerian aviation to international standard levels, but being positive, I would say its improving, and nowadays this is one of the most important things. Aviation in Nigeria is booming and growing more than in any other african country, so just give them the chance and time to see what are they able of. Many things to improve of course, but companies like Virgin Nigeria, Arik and Aero are bringing the level up, eventhough they still have to work hard.

Good luck.

Outofhereoyibo, I see you are back on the farm in Alabama, well we do miss you big time, but not to worry! The new las has moved into your room!

I suggest you find the time from pprune to search for another job, by the way if you have one lined up already please let me know

If not, then relax a bit, fix the leak on the roof, clean out the barn, have a few Buds and take the miss for some ice tea down at the local diner, just chill man.

PS: By the way, your prescription from the clinic arrived just minutes after you left, I suggest you take care of that issue asap man, nasty that vd thingy

so long

I just think it is unfair to tarnish the great job of a great team, over certain faux pax that all organizations go through.
Dr.Demuren is the only reason we risk investing in Nigeria.
He is the best thing to happen to the NCAA and Nigerian aviation.
The autonomous nature of NCAA now within the Nigerian aviation industry, is down to his lobbying, politicking and ability to show advantages via exposing politicians to recognise huge potential to be generated from the global aviation community, recognising that Nigerian aviation is finally moving in a positive direction.

This has made companies such as ours take the risk of investing more within the Nigerian aviation industry, and take more risks in pursuing potential opportunities.

Mctighe and Rodrigues are a great part of whatever success Arik Air enjoys.I hope the powers that be in Arik understand that fully.
