Guys let's clarify some things before you make a wrong decision.
I will give you some infos in order to help you and then, to have a better idea.
Let's start from the management, the guys on the 9th floor lives in another world, they settled the punishment culture, every single thing that they do not like they will give you a punishment starting from warning letters up to dismissal. From not wearing the hat or the tie correctly to not show that the ipad is correctly charged.
They downgrade cpt's and Sfo's for nothing, few months ago one instructor was downgraded just because during a training flight with a local trainee with a just a bunch of hours on piston ac, did a go*around. He pratically was flying alone, did everything correctly, did the PA, and landed safely. He was downgraded and blamed because a stupid passenger compained because from his point of view, the cpt did not give enough informations to the pax.
This is just an example, if you want I will tell you many other crazy stories.
Then, many people is leaving away from better "normal" companies. Yes, they are hiring but via the agencies, and not in the contract and no one will tell you that your seniority will be half compared to that of the local guys and few other lucky FO's with a very good connections with some managers.
And last, few months ago the "CEO" has been changes together with the board, they are gonna review the previous AC order and they will take only half of the planes previously ordered.
So think twice before you fall in this hole that they are trying to sell you as a dream.
P.S. The tickets to commute are not confirmed, they reserve only 1 seat for the commuters to go in U.S. and I have heard 2 for Europe. Consider that often happens that the flight is full and you have to arrange by yourself to go home one day after loosing one day off or buy a ticket with other companies at your expenses. Confirmed ticket....ahahaha!

Eva update
I was wondering what could I find about Eva... I was feeling lonely thinking all of these and reading previous posts... I realize i was not alone! Haha i recently joined the company 8months ago... And all is true... They downgrade you for nothing and blame you for everything. Make you feel like shiit...
Really... I had a pretty good profile to be honnest... Passed my full jaa atpl with all marks above 95%, studied before as a physician before i realize i needed something else. Worked as an aero engineer to finally end as a pilot. But here, this is not life.
They provide you dirty accomodation... Yes they're working on it, meaning so much noise everyday from 8am to 6pm when you need rest for a night flight... They treat you so bad and talk very rude... They think they are the best and that their training is the best...
For infos, Eva is the company where they have the most hard landing on B777... Training problem? No of course... They're the best... Yeah... They'll upgrade you after you join top of seniority but since your seniority is counted half only... Good luck!
And also keep smiling and be neat in all your uniform or they downgrade you... Here, failure is the standard, all people I know here got extra sim, extra training, extra this or that, grounded or this or that...anyway, i'm leaving at the end of the year... It was a nice experience anyway... Always learn something

Can anyone confirm commuting flights.... is it confirmed economy only with possible upgrade? And you commute on days off or designated travel days? I have read conflicting information in this thread.
Thanks for the info in here, I have read all 11 pages from the beginning and it covers it ALL. Seems like not a bad place to work.

It doesn’t usually happen in my commuting route (multiple flights a day) but apparently the Europe flights are always full. Then again, is my understanding that first come first served so the faster you request your seat the higher chances you have.

I don't know much about EVA…don't hear very much about them but I'm aware they've been around for a long time...didn't read this entire thread but it goes back to 2012. I see they have their own dedicated training academy in the USA (didn't know that…they're currently looking for CFIs):
"EVA Flight Training Academy provides training primarily for EVA Air’s Cadets."

They are recruiting to fill low numbers ie openings in their FO seat. Their cadet program is very expensive ie in excess of $200,000 for a Cadet to go through their training pipeline. Experienced FOs will allow them to save a lot of money and those who they like might possibly have a chance at upgrade, simple business decision.

Is the cost paid by the cadet or the airline ? $200K is pretty steep.
And I understand that seats need to be filled to make the wheels turn, however they have to do it.

They can't keep pilots for very long. Expats rarely last more than a few years. In the past they were a good stepping stone to better jobs. Guys went to them with low time and then went on to Emirates or another better airline.
Even local pilots are leaving Taiwanese carriers for the mainland because Taiwanese carriers do not pay well and give less time off than the mainland carriers do to expats. Taiwanese pilots can go to the mainland at close to double their salary and have more time off at home in Taiwan than by working for CAL and EVA. Why CAL and EVA management can't see that and do something to stem the losses is beyond belief.
I chatted to CAL a couple of years ago about becoming a B777 sim instructor part time since I was living in Taiwan. Me, a B777 TRE with over 6000 hours in type, and you know what they said. They wanted to hire me, but required $10,000 up front for my training costs and then were only going to pay $300/session. See the problem?

after been on ground for 10 months with no job it will be great to go to EVA or CAL.

Cost of living in Taiwan is very low (except housing). Airline pilot (starting) salaries are probably 3 or 4 times higher than other jobs. No wonder it is common to see, engineers and even doctors join an ab-initio program. So for the country-standards, pilot pay is very high.
Now, when you compare it with the industry, internationally speaking, that’s a whole different story. Salaries are lower than the average and will never compare with mainland China. For those happy in their comfort zone and living at home (National pilots or expats living in Taiwan)…works great. For those eager to make some extra cash, China is around the corner.
As for retaining their pilots, the main business strategy is the training bonds. High amounts and several years commit you to the company. Nevertheless, with the growing demand for pilots in Asia it will become a challenge for all carriers not only to retain their pilots but to attract qualified ones.
