Eva Air, Taiwan
Has anyone joined Eva Air recently? I have seen lot of advertisements for pilots either directly by the airline and from recruiters.
"Horray, Fantastic!" is my first thought.
My second thought is, why does it seem like Eva Air is having a hard time finding pilots?
Anybody from US/Europe that has joined them recently that can shed some light on this company?

Not sure if it is true but I heard that the airline has reached 20 years old recently. 20 year bonds for locals expiring. Good pay and perhaps schedules attracting some to nearby China.

As you may know EVA signed for three more 77W from Boeing and leased four more of the same recently. Adding to their 15 strong 77W fleet.
Hence recent hiring efforts.
However EVA is known to provide less money then other airlines in return for training non type rated pilots in heavy jets. You are not the best paid but you get to fly the big jets and get the rating and the experience in return.
It is seen as a good gig for a few years by many, not by all.

EVA Airways Corp (EVA, 長榮航空), the nation’s second-largest airline, yesterday announced plans to add seven more of Boeing Co’s 777-300ER aircraft to its fleet to replace its B747-series airplanes and pursue greater energy efficiency.
The air carrier signed a US$930 million contract with Boeing to purchase three new B777-300ERs and inked an agreement to lease the remaining four planes from GE Capital Aviation Services Ltd, a commercial aircraft financing and leasing unit of General Electric Corp.
Deliveries are set to start in June 2014 and be completed by June 2016.
“Deployment of the additional seven of these aircraft and gradual replacement of our other aircraft types will standardize our fleet and give us greater operational flexibility,” EVA president Chang Kuo-wei (張國煒) said at the signing ceremony.
EVA is a launch customer for the B777-300ER, Chang said. The air carrier operates 15 B777-300ER aircraft on its long-haul routes.
Compared with the B747-series aircraft, the B777-300ER consumes 22 percent less fuel, reduces carbon dioxide emissions by 22 percent and costs up to 20 percent less to operate, Chang said, citing analyses from Boeing.
Following the delivery of the new aircraft, EVA will gradually replace the operations of its B747 series fleet, Chang said, adding that the introduction of new planes will improve the company’s profitability.
Other than passenger jets, EVA will also move ahead with its plans to purchase cargo freighters after seeing some recovery in the cargo business, to replace its old cargo aircraft, Chang said.
EVA has so far divested itself of two of its six MD-series freighters this year and is expected to sell the other four by the end of this year.
Although the price of Brent crude oil fell 5.28 percent to US$113.18 a barrel at the Monday close from a week earlier, the airline sector continues to face the challenge of high jet fuel prices this year, which dragged down carriers’ profitability in the first quarter.
Aviation fuel prices may not reflect a recent downturn in crude oil prices right away, as it is set according to the average crude oil price from the previous month, Chang said.
However, Chang said the company is confident it would return to profit in the third quarter on the back of seasonal demand in the passenger business and will make efforts to break even for the first half of the year.
EVA reported NT$1.08 billion (US$36.77 million), or NT$0.33 per share, in net losses for the first quarter of the year, company financial data showed.
Meanwhile, Chang said he expects crude oil prices to continue their drop in the long term amid an increase in demand for alternative energy sources and falling demand for oil.
“In my opinion, a reasonable crude oil price is expected to fall at least to the level of US$80 a barrel,” Chang said.

Does anyone have detailed info on Eva´s current terms and conditions for a B747 FO? Base pay, flight hour pay, pension, bonus, allowances / accomodation, per diems, training bond, etc?
Everything on PPRUNE is at least 2 years old and would be nice to have updated info about the contract they´re offering now.
Would be also great to keep this post strictly around the "financial" features of the contract, as there´s already a lot of useful info (bad and good) on this forum regarding other issues.

Eva Air is back ...Interview process?
Hi gentlemens,
I 've seen Eva Air is back with recruitment : does anybody know how will take place the SIM session during the interview process? Will it be performed on the same type of a/c you're applying for (es. A330)? How's the Eva Air pilot's dormitory? Is it your seat reserved when travelling for your commuting days off?

no they are not hirings captains.
Sim will most likely be on 747.
when you commute on your days off, u will have a reserved seat, if space you will go business class, if not in economy. Most crews let u use the crew
bunk/rest.
Dormitory life is what you make of it, Nankan is not a bad suburb to be in, Taiwan as a country has alot to see, so get out of Tai Pei and see it!
Interview is pretty standard airline stuff, as is the sim, the whole process takes 5 days, as 2 days is medical( tough to pass).
I am x EVA, so i could be wrong but plan on taking home $6000 US a month as a F/O.
Bond is about 4 years.
You dont have to commute, you can live locally and Eva will pay your rent, so will suit some with families.
I think time to command now is about 7 years, which is not bad.
I left Eva to join the corporate world, met some good people there, and did some good flying.
Enjoy the interview there, its a 5 day holiday, its a good way to see if its what you want.

Hi Guys
I also have a screening in October with Eva Air. The Airline I am currently with is in the process of folding so I have to move on. Currently flying MD80 and B732 so a little concerned about the sim check as I have no glass time. A 2 day medical??? Is it possible to spend 2 days examining/testing/prodding a human being? Any info would also be appreciated.
