Despite the presence on English airports reasonably nearby I still reckon the Scottish population can support similar international traffic as New Zealand...
Not with Heathrow, Gatwick and Manchester being so close, you're comparing apples and pears. Also remember Scotland lacks critical mass as operations in the central belt are split between GLA and EDI rather than one larger strategic asset.
“If you build it he will come” is the prophetic quote from Field of Dreams. Build these routes and the passengers and the economic growth that they bring will land on our shores. The future is growth.
By all means take your marketing strategy from Kevin Costner but do remember that he also made Waterworld. EDI is almost at breaking point in summer, perhaps sort out the infrastructure first?

Nice response Agree totally on the infrastructure needing sorted. I'm just an optimist who believes we can do it.

Another million passenger month

Domestic 470,668 +10.6%
International 602,873 + 7.2%

Total 1,073,541. +8.7%

Year on year 10.89 million.

What further increases or routes can EDI attract next year?

Regards 4ea

Traditionally some of the busiest months now for ME carriers, how are the loads holding up for the now daily QR and EY services? Presumably aiming for high 80's loads consistently now both routes are firmly established, particularly QR.

EZY EDI-BJV

Hi i know this is a bit in the future but is anyone aware if Ezy will operate the successful EDI-BJV in may 2017? And operational days as they changed for S16.
I use the route a lot and using it again in.S16

I ask this at this early stage as need to book dates for 2017 before they go on sale in sept 16 as my new employer wishes to know the accurate dates as they don't usually guarantee dates after around the June the year before for may and sept
as we travel usually may and sept is their any way of having a heads up on 2017 via Easyjet as we only have Easyjet to bodrum now from Scotland and it is important to us.

I also note they are joined with Tc holidays in S16 on the Edi will this continue in S17
sorry if it is off topic.
Also for the advance interest in the route.

May 2017????

Nobody knows what the economy or geopolitical situation is going to be this time next year, let alone May 2017 in October 2015! Turkey could be in the midst of a civil war by then (and that may not be a far fetched as you think given the policies of the Turkish government), or the UK economy might have gone to hell in a handcart (equally possible!).

Surely the best route into Bodrum, if you're travelling regularly is Turkish, over Istanbul. Why use an IT operators - TK would offer greater flexibility.

LHR-EDI

After the Virgin Little Red service ended does anyone know who's taken the slots out of Heathrow and if anyone plans to give BA some competition on the LHR-EDI etc routes?

LON-EDI is already aggresively served across all of the major London airports by BA, easyJet, flybe and once again Ryanair. So it's not a BA monopoly, the problem is LHR is high cost and if BMI can't so with STAR ALLIANCE connectivty and Virgin with their high brand awareness bled red, then the only *likely* option would by EZY and that would only be in an expanded three runway scenario.

So in the medium term, no one, certainly no one likely to make money.

Hi AT NOTTS,

The only issue with the istanbul links its cost of flights as you said flexibility is good also ezy is good on that the cost of internal flying in turkey can be costly. From previous experience.
Onur air are very expencive from istanbul to bodrum also pegusus.

We were just over in turkey in sept security has been stepped up with jandarma road blocks back in opperation with all traffic are required to stop as you are flashed and they stand in the road also regular jandarma patrols.

Their is always issues in election years its nothing new the civil unrest was present whilst we have been going for 15yrs nw and for maybe 9 of those years have been unrest years but nothing esculated outside of the fco no go areas.

It's quite hard to tell. With EZY if the route doesn't do well in summer 2016 then I doubt it'd be back in Summer 2017. They would drop it and send the aircraft elsewhere. Predicting now what the summer 2017 market will be like is impossible and pointless. Any number of new destinations could see a rise in traffic and Bodrum could quite easily suffer. One thing I'd be concerned about, aside from domestic Turkish matters is the ongoing Syrian situation, if millions more flood into Turkey and head for the Coast (seeing as how Bulgaria and Greece will tighten land borders) then Bodrum could be swamped with people seeking to leave and that'll impact on tourism.

Of course, EZY could drop the route and someone new could pick it up. As you'll no doubt book as soon as seats go on sale you're unlikely to have any problems getting a good deal so why not just tell your employer the dates now and book as soon as you can, with firm dates in mind. If you happen to choose dates without a direct BJV service from Scotland then you'll have plenty of time to sort something else out. I must say an employer asking about holiday dates in 2017 is a bit odd in my opinion, unless you're being taken on specifically for a project that lasts a certain amount of time and they are planning staffing requirements way in advance.

Being honest, any employer who thinks you can book a holiday two years in advance, or at least know the dates, and expect the employees to give a firm notice of this, isn't an employer I wish to know. It's the employer asking an employee to inform them how long they wish to live for. Or to give dates for funerals in advance.
