Another acquisition for Cityjet, after Blue 1, the Sukhoi fleet, and the Bonbardier fleet.

It does make you wonder where Pat Byrne is getting the money.

Only a matter of time before some of those Sukhois have shamrocks on the tail me thinks

Airline economics confuse me; I wouldn't have thought Stobart Air seemed to be worth very much at all.

The new airline will be born into interesting times. At the very least, it will be operating in a difficult commercial environment, at worst it is an amalgamation of two airlines that have struggled to find their niche and that have too many similarities to an awful lot of former airlines.

Why wouldn't stobart air be worth much?

A fleet of brand new aircraft, 1.5+ million passengers a year, some
Lucrative contracts and a profitable operation?

It's one of the better airline businesses, certainly. I do see the strengths they bring to CityJet. But contracts can come and go (and they aren't long term compared to the lifespan of an aeroplane) and their previous operations for CityJet proved that one, and being a regional airline is to be in a dicey business dealing with fickle customers.

80 million isn't much in the airline take over business.

Last year was the first profit in some time.

How are the operations in Scandanavia going for SAS and Finnair? Are they performing well?

Now that there are two Sukhoi Superjets in full use, one is just operating ad-hoc charters for Cityjet out of Dublin around various points, the second is running under Finnair flight numbers out of Helsinki and seems to serve Geneva and Warsaw daily.

Cityjet now linked with taking over Cimber (op CRJ for SK). They replace Cimber Sterling. Would take WX CRJ fleet from 8 to 19.
Analytiker: SAS er ikke lykkedes med Cimber - CHECK-IN.dk

Guess would make sense for SK cut number of regional operators to just BE (ATR) and WX (CRJ)

Where are Cityjet finding the money for all these takeovers ? Lenders presumably want to see a company generating healthy profits before continuing to lend ever more cash... airlines in northwest Europe are a relatively mature industry which means (unlike some tech companies) sales growth rates are unlikely to be 100% per year

Was wondering the same thing, could the two SK deals be pretty cheap and good value?

Having finally seen the Superjet 100 at SEN I must say it's an attractive little beast, isn't it? Fairly quiet too.

Flightglobal article Cityjet - Superjet

"CityJet expects to get at least two more contracts with major airlines this year for the Superjet 100, which is a good opportunity to see 'our baby' flying with the brands of major airlines," he adds.

Wonderful content in the Irish Times:

Stobart Air operates regional air services between a variety of centres in Europe and the UK, with Southend Airport being a key base. It is the operator of the Aer Lingus Regional network. The announcement said that the transactions “ will enhance Stobart’s flexibility in building new passengers routes at Stansted airport”, indicating that it will retain some stake in the merged airline.

#Stansted Airport and #Southend Airport being a key base

Though Stobart Air news, these 2 will become one as Cityjet soon, so this thread probably suitable!
