Eagle test / assesment day
Hi all, I have my assesment day for direct entry FO coming up next week and was wondering what the EAGLE/capacity test actual consists of and if the use of SkyTest is still relevant.

Pre-command freeze on type is 1 year, on a different type it is 4 years. I have never seen someone released from a pre-command freeze within mainline BA.

I was talking about recent years which is all that is relevant to current DEPs, and I was talking about LH to mainline SH. My guess is you went to EOG?

As a matter of interest, any idea what trips can be expected for a new 787 FO in the first year or so?
I'm seeing it does a lot of variety, just wondering what I'd actually be able to get once I'm no longer benefitting from the trainer's rosters |
Hi, it is all done in one day. You have the Group exercise in groups of 4 (or depending in on number on the day), followed by interview, EAGLE test and Handling test. They say you get 2 of the exercises done before lunch

These posts are now becoming like spam and clogging the thread. They've literally been answered multiple times. Most recently as 1 page back someone says there are no changes, so you can't have searched at all really.
At great risk of sounding holier than thou, when i did the assessment I went to page 1 and read it all. When I was looking for something specific, I used the search function. Everything* is answered here. * except for what runway, airports and emergency to expect, because nobody knows as it changes, and BA watch this space |
It's the same in the Middle East thread. Seems every 3rd post is someone asking if anyone has some recent experience applying to Emirates/Qatar/Etihad because the posts they found are all old.
You literally only have to go two comments up and someone has written about an interview they did last week. |

It might be a good idea here to just give potential joiners a quick rundown of our rostering system, JSS.
Each month the company lists all the trips for a full month. P777 its normally around 1500 or so trips to be shared among the 600ish copilots on the fleet. We then have a few days to put together our bids. This is currently happening now, for March rosters. You can make up to 15 "bid groups". In each bid group you have 7 buckets to fill with the trips, using a sequence of commands. Ultimately you can differentiate between the trips however you like... Mondays, report after 11.45am, Caribbean, BA283 on Wednesday, long layovers in Mauritius, anything you like right down to a certain flight number on a certain date. The 7 buckets range from what JSS will try to give you lots of if it can, down to what it will try to avoid giving you, if it can. You can leave any trips you really dont want outside by not putting them in any bucket at all, and JSS won't even look at those trips for you. But if it doesn't have enough work to build you a roster, that Bid Group will fail and it'll move onto the next Bid Group. After it has made a roster for everyone, if it has too many leftover trips, JSS will open up rosters from the bottom up to squeeze more trips onto your month. It'll still try to give you what you've asked for but really all bets are off. This is called Global Constraints and has recently gone all the way to the top of the list causing much frustration. On a practical level, i find as junior P777 i can't get any particular day off im after, but if i give it 20 destinations i like, it might give me one or two from that list. The rest will be from the lower buckets. For March, I've tried to get a certain Wed/Thu off for childcare. Then I've tried to get the following weekend off. Then ive tried to avoid JKF EWR ORD. Then I've listed 23 places I like in the top 3 buckets (of approx 45 destinations on the fleet). I'll update here the result if anyone's interested. Apologies if this post is seen as a bit off piste. But bidding and rostering is such a big part of life at BA I think it probably warrants a discussion... |
Been offered the 787 or the 350. I'm currently P1 on the 320 with another airline. The 350 starts 6 weeks later. Appreciate any insights please.

350 is the easier course for you I imagine? Having said that, the sooner you join the more senior you are…

Take the 787. Six weeks could make a hell of a difference to your first LH command in the long run. An Airbus to Boeing conversion is way easier than the other way round and the number of people failing any conversion for that matter is vanishingly small. The A350 is a small fleet and will remain so (I think the future orders and exercise of options now rightly or wrongly will be between the 787 and 777-9 - they haven’t decided to switch to GE engines for a sub fleet of 6) so your relative seniority isn’t going to move as fast on the 350 as on the 787. More variety on the fleet too.

I was recently given 777 or 787 and chose 787. There appears to be some revival of hiring onto the 787? I remember a while ago someone said here said the 787 was full RE hiring, I guess that has changed. |

I too interviewed quite a while ago, sounded like the above example. Not sure if they still do it but there was a capacity test, computer based with headset - frequency changes, dct to's, altitudes, headings, descent level by ### using v/s and groundspeed, ecam type actions, systems management, routine monitoring, priority tasks getting busier and busier and busier (was quite fun tbh!), try and zone out from the other candidates master warnings going off! I'm sure they tell you what to expect on the invite?

Recently passed my sim assessment for BA Euroflyer and I’m in the holdpool. I meet the criteria for mainline.
how long have people tended to stay in the hold pool? Is the any chance of being called for mainline even though I applied for euroflyer? thank you! |
