It seems that the talent pool that BA can choose from is not as big as it used to be.

The world is unstable , lots of people don’t want to be leaving secure jobs to be at the threat of redundancy.
Also I believe people understand that BA isn’t the dream job that it once was .

Anyone that’s interested that has an upcoming sim assessment . Did a 2 hour sim session at a place called Simprep based at Gatwick . Was very impressed with them and good value.

Thats not what they are asking....everyone knows how to calculate ROD. But a certain program I wont name gives the Distance as Height diff / 2 x ROD and for some reason asks for TOD when climbing. Not to mention we have no idea how fast the aircraft is going. And then for some reason others say ow you just use Height diff / ROD. which just gives you the time again without knowing the speed expecting to know the distance. bizarre

Hey folks

Sorry if this has been covered before. I saw the chat around 1000 hrs PIC to get a command. What would be the hours requirement for an internal FO with no jet PIC time?

3000 jet hours, 12 months service.

Transfer to Heathrow from Gatwick

Hi all,

If I join Gatwick as a FO, after initial 5 year freeze is up and I want to go over to LHR, am I able to go over as a FO (to keep relative seniority) or will I be forced a captain upgrade?

You are never forced to take command, should you wish you could stay in the RHS and enjoy the benefits of seniority and JSS

thank you, if one was to make the move over would that be another 5 year freeze or is the 5 year freeze for when you join only?

Phantom4 27th March 2024 07:59

Never held to a freeze period, three courses in consecutive years.

Tell that to all the ex-747 pilots who were unfrozen during their final year on the jumbo, but now see themselves being leapfrogged to 777 commands by more junior pilots because they have been frozen on other fleets following being ‘saved from the CRS’. A seriously unjust part of the covid agreement thought up by BALPA, which was neither going to advantage nor disadvantage any pilot. The company didn’t even pay for the ex CRS pilots’ new type ratings, so why the freeze?

Bid and subsequent freeze rules are quite complex, but the rules say a new freeze will not be applied if the pilot is ‘directed’ to a new base. This would imply that one is applied for an aspirational base change on the same type.

There’s some ambiguity around the 777 LHR/ LGW bases. Are all 777 pilots dual based?

topgunaviator 27th March 2024 15:37

thanks all,

any idea how long to allow from arrival at crew carpark at LHR to T5? Are there regular busses?

Yes, the 777 is the only fleet with a dual base, although LHR is considered the home base (slight complexities regarding FTL calculations).

The A320 is used at both airports, but the flight crew are based at either LHR on a mainline contract, or LGW on a Euroflyer contract. All 777 pilots are on a mainline LHR contract.

Buses are (officially) every 7-8 minutes, although this can fluctuate slightly. It generally seems accepted that if you've swiped in to the car park at least 20 mins prior to report time that you've left a reasonable amount of time.

20mins is the agreed and accepted minimum

Thanks STF. If offered a different type initially (they mentioned they were heavily recruiting on the triple at the mo) would you still be able to have a successful 320 command bid or would the type freeze override it?

It’s one of the circumstances you’d have a good chance of getting unfrozen early. Strictly speaking you’d be frozen, but given the latest bid results had 320 commands (LHR) go all the way to the bottom of the MSL, it’s quite possible they would release you for it.

For a comparison what would we be looking at pay wise as a PP2 left seat 320, basic pay plus duty and all the other bits? Is it 30 days leave a year, and how many days in a month do you guys work?

138k at PP2 with average allowances etc included

edit: that includes the pension as well. The spreadsheet they sent out isn’t the greatest

GS-Alpha 28th March 2024 12:36

I had a look through the recent iteration of the bid result. The most junior successful 320 Command bid for someone coming from a long haul fleet is 4 training years complete within the company - which is the standard pre-command freeze. So for this year, as far as I can see - no one has been released from a long haul fleet early, to take up a short haul command.
