You don’t necessarily have to do hotlines, both hotlines and staff travel tickets do the job although obviously you don’t collect your tier points on the latter. Staff travel is a pain granted and it’s a faff with the standby queue at T5 but just get your jumpseat request in early and 90% of the captains are absolutely on side and respect the unwritten rules, even the 10% who seem to go rogue with their own personal interpretation I struggle to believe would leave someone behind and would exhaust all avenues in getting you on. Been commuting for 8 years now and never yet been left behind. It all depends on your own personal tolerance I suppose.

Do BA crew get free staff car parking at Heathrow?

yanny 8th February 2024 12:33

Yes, a car park on the northern perimeter road with a shuttle bus that goes to and from T5.

Has anyone applied with an EASA ATPL licence (no previous UK licence)? I am thinking of giving it a try.

Also when applying, do they require an UK CAA medical or can I do it once offered the job?

Thanks

Hey everyone!

Does anyone remember the actual instructions when doing the capacity test? Or any specifics?
Any feeback/advice of your experience will be highly appreciated!
Feel free to DM.

Thanks

On Duty yes, a free car park (usually just enough spaces) with a shuttle bus every 5 mins or so. No formal agreement but "minimum acceptable" is generally regarded as being in the car park 20 mins before report time.

For hols you can park out by the engineering buildings, near to Hatton Cross tube.

70% on the 320 and commuting is a breeze for me. Helps that I live somewhere we night stop, and that I'm happy enough to work weekends and fly wherever I'm told. I try to block work together so quite often do 4-6 days at a time - max tours are 5 days so generally spend 1-2 nights in a hotel a week (eg. hotel, 3 day trip, hotel, 3 day trip, home). The 5 day tours go pretty senior, but 2/3 day ones are easy to get, and I'm starting to get the odd 4 day now too.

Days off between blocks can vary, but probably average 3 days over a month. Very occasional 1 day, sometimes 2, but also get the odd 4/5/6/7 as well. 13 days off a month is my average for the last 3 months with no leave. You're guaranteed 2 weekend days a month off now with a new agreement that was put in place, plus each leave block gets you two weekends off, and 6 Gold days whenever you need them.

If you are planning to commute from a night stop location this can make it even easier. I usually get 4-5 extra nights at home a month on night stops (getting paid for it too!).

Reserve isn't ideal, you'll have to potentially pay for a hotel for 6 nights, but if you're lucky you'll get used for a few tours. Any questions feel free to PM me

Hey would be able to send me the capacity test feedback too?
Would really apprecitate it!
Thanks

GS123 9th February 2024 13:59

Are these new agreements in place for LH fleets as well? R.e the two weekend days off per month?

yanny 9th February 2024 14:14

No, SH only. From what I can see at the bottom of the list on LH, you will generally make at least two weekend days off a month anyway. The trip construction and days off requirements will work in your favour for generating a few days off on weekends. Plus, on LH a lot more people are bidding for destinations over time off, the opposite is true on SH.

Hi,

Who would you recommend for a practice sim session before the assessment? I have found a few different places but it would be nice to hear from some people that have actually been there. The ones I am considering are Motion, PM flight and FSM, any reviews or other recommendations would be appreciated.

Thanks

I would thoroughly recommend Motion Flight Training. I’ve personally used them and was very impressed

It consists of using your capacity to solve a problem. So why not use your capacity to go back through the thread and read what has been said before and solve the problem.

Wondering if some of the guys on the line could share some info on the loss of license insurance, please? I have attended one of those information sessions a while back(online) and the figures they quoted was £245K for FO’s. At the assessment they said £206K if I recall correctly. Checked the notes when got home and wondered where the discrepancy is, has it being reduced or I imagined that?

Many thanks!

How long does it take for an experienced direct entry F/O to upgrade?

Greatestshow737 10th February 2024 21:41

To whom ever works at BA…

experienced f/o here on the middle east. Would you go to BA or US?

At the bottom of the 320 would it be possible to successfully bid for only there and backs? I live close and I’m getting a bit over being away from home.

I assume you mean United States ? If so absolutely! Most of the pilots in the UK would jump at the chance to work for one of the Large American Airlines.
BA is ok but personally I believe on the declining road.

I’ve seen some junior LHR 320 rosters that are pretty much all day trips. My understanding has always been that trips are generally more popular in the RHS than the LHS, bar for commuters. I reckon if you were willing to be flexible with start times and days off you’d be in with a solid chance of day trips and maybe some two day sixes. If you are successful (the very best of luck, it is a good place to be) there will be plenty of advice from others on how to bid! Everyone has their own formula…

Euroflyer is all day trips I believe, so you might want to think about that as well.
