PFO. Ta...

pilot3103 13th September 2012 05:49

Just out of curiosity, does anyone know what the total flight pay equates to please per year or month in summer and month in winter? Any help is much appreciated

Callsign Kilo 13th September 2012 09:34

Pilot3103,

It was stated in an earlier part of this thread that crew are paid £9.00 per flying hour and £3.52 for FDA (with 0.86 of this untaxed). I'm not sure what Thomson's Part A states with regards to when a flight duty period commences? I believe it ends at chocks on. A further complexity that you may encounter when trying to calculate predicted take home is that flight pay increases by a particular factor depending on the time of duty ie flying through the night into the morning etc. Again someone from TOM was kind enough to disclose this information in the early part of this thread.

I remember reading that average hours for a permanent full time employee were in the region of 700 per annum. This, in my opinion, will either be less on this deal or the same (you will simply work more during your two weeks on in the winter months). Summer appears to be full tilt, again a current TOM pilot suggested 90-93 hours per month.

I'm pretty sure take home may vary from base to base, type of scheduling, roster pattern etc.

Would be keen to know the type of pattern in the summer - 6/2 6/3 etc or is it more random? Does anyone commute from other parts of the UK? Ie B&B when on duty, return home for days off? Is this even economically feasible and/or does the roster pattern, especially during summer, allow it?

Many thanks

Bluebaron 13th September 2012 20:42

I heard over 700 have applied 60 selected for interviews over 4 days for 25-35 jobs.

Good luck

uchy 13th September 2012 21:07

They have already selected and invited all the pilots needed?
Those who have not yet received a response can be considered excluded?

SD. 13th September 2012 21:52

4000+ hrs, mostly NG = PFO

Bluebaron 13th September 2012 23:06

not sure if letters have been sent out yet.

Pin Head 13th September 2012 23:41

just out of interest, those with PFO letters re you in active employment elsewhere? If so where?

Boeing Europe 14th September 2012 00:35

if they are sending letters of PFO to guys with 4000 NG time , there must be allot of very experienced people applying...?

SD. 14th September 2012 07:13

I would say the opposite Boeing, cynical me says the less experienced guy is probably preferred.

@ bluebaron - I can assure you a PFO landed firmly in my inbox.

Boeing Europe 14th September 2012 07:42

^^ what makes you say that...?? I have 1k NG time so I welcome that comment ha

Fly Better! 14th September 2012 07:52

What format are the PFO's in? Email?

shaftsburn 14th September 2012 08:11

Also a PFO via email (3000hrs on 737 - no NG)

yeoman 14th September 2012 08:56

The info I had is that they were looking for a range of experience levels within the criteria laid down. If so and assuming the numbers quoted above are correct then with a slightly less than 1 in 10 chance I would humbly suggest that there will doubtless be guys with lots of experience who are disappointed and / or frustrated.

I was reliably informed that 170 applications were received in the first 24 hours that met all the requirements so the 700 quoted above may not be unreasonable.

jamesIST 14th September 2012 09:23

PFO

2700, mostly NG. Currently employed in the middle east. Would have been nice to come home !

fightthepower 14th September 2012 11:20

Forgive me for asking. What is PFO?

Boeing Europe 14th September 2012 11:26

Please  off

A 'Patent Foramen Ovale' (PFO) is a defect in the septum (wall) between the two upper (atrial) chambers of the heart. Specifically, the defect is an incomplete closure of the atrial septum that results in the creation of a flap or a valve-like opening in the atrial septal wall.

Or in this context, 'Please  Off'

Urban Dictionary: pfo

dashhead 14th September 2012 11:28

A letter of rejection.

fightthepower 14th September 2012 14:02

Look at that .. you learn something new everyday.

Contributing to the thread then, I applied but didn't get PFOed. No news is good news?

NG with 1600 on type.

nick14 14th September 2012 15:32

Perhaps they are after pilots with NG time, the above PFO's seem to be aimed at guys without, but I may be very wrong!

Scratch that, just looked back through the thread and found a few NG gus with PFO's, I should learn to read!

ragamuffin 14th September 2012 15:59

Why dont you PFO.

3000+ B737 hours. PFO ADCB

:ouch:

Boeing Europe 14th September 2012 16:06

Are the PFO's coming by e-mail or are they on the application portal

ragamuffin 14th September 2012 20:07

via email. PFO is at least a little more polite than silence.

pilot3103 15th September 2012 07:13

Has anyone received an invite yet? The PFOs that have been received so far, when did people apply? Are they working through in date order? Sorry to those that have got them, and good luck to those waiting.

pilotatlast 16th September 2012 07:27

How many pilots does Thomson now have on the seniority list?

Bluebaron 16th September 2012 11:18

About 785 down form 1100 odd at time of merger. Thomson had 750 pre merger. As we have pretty much absorbed an airline the size of First Choice we are now ready for expansion.

The tour operator is expanding quite a lot. As an airline though we are not expanding as much. Plan is for Thomson airways to provide around 75% of TUI Travel lift.

Rip_Roar 17th September 2012 17:08

So Bluebaron.....Thomson "absorbed" an airline the size of First Choice? Interesting turn of phrase.

Forgive me for asking but I was convinced it was a "merger" ? ..........def:

"a statutory combination of two or more corporations by the transfer of the properties to one surviving corporation."

Good luck to all those have an interview or more. It's a good place to work, given the current financial climate. IMHO.

;)

pilot3103 17th September 2012 17:11

Has anyone got an interview lined up yet or none been offered as yet?
3103

No_AP_no_AT_no_FD 17th September 2012 17:16

Nope

No news here.
Good luck to everyone.

beamer 17th September 2012 17:56

Indeed, First Choice management now dominate Thomson - not that I am saying that is a bad thing or a good one

Ronand 17th September 2012 23:32

So if those guys got a PFO email, getting no response so far might be positive.

Bluebaron 18th September 2012 10:29

Rip Roar,

The point I was making is that Thomson has around 30 pilots more since the merger. Therefore by definition an airline the size of first choice has disappeared.

Someone asked a perfectly reasonable question regarding the airline size and I wont been drawn into a discussion regarding mergers etc......

Rip_Roar 18th September 2012 19:15

Bluebaron,

I get the point you were making. Choice of words aludes to more.

Brgds,

tpod 20th September 2012 09:00

1st 2nd officer

Does any one know what Thomson class as a 1st officer as opposed to a 2nd officer as they appear to be recruiting both and I have no idea how they classify these roles?

woolyalan 20th September 2012 10:15

I believe that a First Officer is 1500 total time with 500+ on type, Second Officer is when one, or the other, or both is less. I'm not certain though.

woolyalan 20th September 2012 17:44

PFO just received

tpod 20th September 2012 18:24

Thanks for the info woolyalan. Sorry for your bad news.
I am still waiting to hear. Anyone been called for interview / assessment yet?

Boeing Europe 20th September 2012 18:28

PFO also just recieved
