Is it too late to apply for these ppy 50 contracts?
|
Interesting.... Does anyone have any idea of numbers required?
I'm guessing the guys/gals being given an interview were previously told no at the initial application a few months ago!? |
BZ that is broadly correct. There is a potential additional requirement for reasons not yet for public consumption as final decisions have yet to be made.
For this reason numbers are nothing more than speculation. A rumour network this may be but from my perspective this is an exception so I won't be speculating. Bearing in mind the above, my strong suspicion is that the actual application process won't be reopened in full, it will be a review of those already in the system. Do NOT take that as gospel as I am NOT involved in that decision so my advice remains to keep your ear to the ground. Good luck to all.:ok: |
Invited for assesment days 3-4 Feb, what can I expect ? How many people are invited on these days ?
|
Is this through an agency?because I have looked everywhere and I can't find it on their website...

I was contacted yesterday and was invited down for assessment on the 3rd/4th of feb after having a rejection when I applied late last year without being invited for interview.
|
Any idea what assessment is like ? How many days it would take ? There's nothing mentioned about simulator. Are you supposed to go for a sim or is it like Norwegian only interview ?
|
No simulator involved.
|
^ No sim involved previously... But as stated above this time round looks like a two day selection?!
Correct me if I'm wrong but Thomson don't have sims at EMA. - unless they are borrowing one of Ryanairs...! Hehehe |
It is a one day event. Group exercise and case study. If successful with that there will be an individual interview.
Start dates 22nd of April and the 6th of May. |

There is no simulator assessment for experienced candidates who are already type rated, just a one day assessment centre. For cadet entry positions there is a simulator session which would usually be undertaken at our main sim provider Boeing in Gatwick on the NG sim.

Am I right to assume the 6 swimming in the pool where hooked out?
|
For the final time!
There is the POSSIBILITY of an additional requirement for pilots over and above those who have already been recruited and who have start dates in Feb and Mar. The first of these places, IF they come to fruition will PRESUMABLY go to those in the Hold Pool as they have already been through selection and been selected. There is no reason to believe this will not be the case but I do NOT make that decision but I talk regularly to the bloke who does. As time will be short, SHOULD this come off, the company have been smart and reopened recruitment in case they have to move sharpish to fill any additional places BEYOND the Hold Pool. Being invited to selection does NOT constitute an offer of employment and can therefore been done without penalty because if it doesn't come off there is not yet any contractual binding. The guys in the Hold Pool have not yet been offered a job because the additional need might not come to pass - that discussion is still ongoing. This is because they are already selected so the next and only communication they can be given is an offer of employment. That will not happen until the additional requirement is definitively shown to exist and that in turn depends on a decision yet to be made. So, if you are in the Pool and fretting, stop! To the best of my knowledge and with the usual Health Warning, I can't see any reason why you wouldn't be the very next through the door. To avoid you firebombing me if it all goes wrong, please remember that I can only give my opinion based on the best information I have and others ay change this at short notice. Please do not PM me on fishing trips, all there is to be said is said above. Good luck to those coming to recruitment and I sincerely hope the additional need materialises for lots of reasons. |
Start dates for guys that are SUCCESSFUL attending assessments on the 3rd and 4th of Feb at EMA are the 22nd of April and the 6th of May. That is what is stated in the assessment invitation. They will be required to attend their initial training courses at LTN on either of those dates.
|
GA F15, does your invitation say whether or not it is still the 80% contract offered? From what I've read it's all still very confusing, with some guys being offered interviews with prospective start dates, Yeoman saying a new course hasn't been decided on yet and with people in the holding pool not hearing anything conclusive from Thomson.... There definitely still seems to be a lot of uncertainty so I guess we'll have to be patient and wait and see! Cheers

Padraig
The decision has STILL not been made. The guys who have been invited to selection would almost certainly be in the Part Time Part Year 50 contract (PPY50). They work all summer and 50% of the winter. It's a bit more complex than that but yes, it comes out at about 80% for various reasons. As I explained above, the Hold Pool will almost certainly come in to fill part of any additional requirement SHOULD it materialise, these other guys are a top up if the requirement exceeds the 6 in the pool. As you say, until the decision is made and only then if there really IS an additional requirement, patience is the only answer! |
Padraig
Yeoman is absolutely correct. The applicants interviewing on the 3rd and 4th at EMA are for PPY50.
|
Thanks for the information! :)
|
Yeoman - I second the above, thanks for your info..
|
You're very welcome.
The decision has now been made and those affected will have been contacted. I have no further information to offer. One guy from the Hold Pool contacted me with a legitimate question now answered. I then asked in post #435 that nobody PM me. Since then, 5 have done so, all asking for information on the selection process that I have already said I don't have! Why? Here's a few tips though.:ugh::{ 1. Read the information given in previous posts. 2. Follow simple requests to do / not do the simplest of things. 3. Learn to spell the name of the company you are trying to convince it is a good idea for them to employ you! |
For those struggling:
There's no P in Thomson. Is it too early to start drinking? |
rosters
what rostering agreement do you have in place at thomson?
are you guaranteed a certain number of days off a month, and are they usually bunched together (few days work, couple days off etc) or is it more like every other day working? do you guys have standbys? (home/airport) or are you kind of permanently on standby? |
Lead.
Might I suggest that if you are lucky enough to be invited for interview then these sort of questions are good for the day. I am sure they can be asked at interview (formal stage) or over coffee, as there is loads of time during the process for interaction with company staff. Best of luck |
Lead, rostering agreement is about a thousand pages long so impossible to answer too many questions. But its evolved over about 40 years, it protects the pilots pretty well with some exceptions, 18-30 hour rest periods for example are not nailed down but are punitive (i.e. the system tries to avoid) in our roster system.
10/11 days off each month, random rostering, very unusual to have single days off, standbys are in blocks always at home & only for four hours. I tend to get 4 blocks of 4 days or so a year. Winters are quieter in general, 20 days off in Feb for me. Bidding system works better for some than others, depends how IT competent you are! Good luck if you are having a go... |
Thanks for the help dc, much appreciated

Thomson fixed term
Have been invited to an assessment for Thomson "fixed term" employment, is this likely to be just a summer contract then be dropped for the winter? Or is there a possibility of continued employment, any info appreciated!:)
|
No window dressing here, promise!
Things have definitely been watered down in the past couple of years but I can only speak from my experience. I'm 756 & I run at about 750/year with a fair bit of flexi thrown in, I and a few of my (756) mates are v quiet in Feb, don't know why... I had one single day off rostered in 2013. I admit our fleet seems to be having it the easiest at the minute though... |
No luck for me in the interview. :(
Oh well, hardly surprising with 4 people going for every position available. Congrats to everyone who was more successful, you guys are going to have an awesome career with that company. |
Thomson Recruiting
How did people get on at the recent interviews?
|
Warrior,
All the previous pilots who have joined on fixed term contracts with the exception of a very few who, following a file review were not invited back, have been offered permanent positions at the end of their term. This is, however, in no way guaranteed, and these positions currently on offer are to crew two aircraft, one at EDI and one at LBA for summer 14. These were originally to be Canadian aircraft from Sunwing, but for various reasons that has not materialised. Provided the issues can be resolved these bases could well be covered by the Canadians in following seasons, thus reducing the requirement for pilots. That is why some of the positions are on the basis you have been offered. Crystal ball required I'm afraid. |
interview
I am also invited, seems to be its only one interview day with 8 positions.
Any rumors about how many they are suppose to hire for this "fixed term" position? Is it only for EDI and LBA? Cheers |
155591
It's about 8 or 9 fixed term positions as a result of extra short notice work at Leeds and Edinburgh. I don't think the positions themselves are restricted to those bases.
|
The info above from Matey, Ocean and DC is correct.
The Fixed Termers are just that. The advice given to them by me and my predecessor is head down, a#*e up and there is a good chance you will be looked at for Permanent Contracts should the need arise and of course, should you wish to take the offer. Why wouldn't the company take a "known" quantity? Sadly, some chose not to take that advice and were "known" for the wrong reasons. Some also looked at TOM and when offered positions decided to move on, AFAIAA, one for family reasons and two to return to their homeland. The bases for Fixed Termers will be part of the offer, you will not go on the seniority list and will not be able to go on the base bid. There is a free bid for pilots already in TOM on Permanent Contracts and those just joining will also be part of that. Fixed Termers are at the bottom of the pile. Should you be offered Permanent Contracts, you go on the list. There are currently 4 Cadets in the system in the same boat, it is my understanding and to be absolutely honest, my strong wish, that these Cadets would get looked at first. Apart from anything else, they have already started. |
