Anyone know the salary figures for fo's? Conflicting information on PPJN

Skindogg 1st July 2013 01:59

"Anyone know the salary figures for fo's? Conflicting information on PPJN "

whoever updated the Aer Lingus ROI contract on ppjn gave the Belfast Ts and Cs.

So the brief payscales on the left hand side are more accurate (although not 100% accurate I believe)

MCDU2 1st July 2013 14:23

Whilst the ROI base money might "headline" as respectable compared to some carriers out there I can assure you that after you deduct pension contribution (11%), PRSI, income tax, USC levies and union fees that your take home is not healthy at all.

Put them through an online tax calculator though to put it into perspective and to take into account of each persons different circumstances eg: kiddies etc.

As an example I take home 55% of my gross - 45% in taxes and pensions. And the worst bit is that it is only going to get worse as I hit the higher tax band and also given the current economic backdrop and no doubt higher taxes/levies/charges to come from the government. The Northern brethren could well be laughing all the way to the bank:)

Business Class 1st July 2013 22:31

What is an ROI contract exactly?

Artic Monkey 1st July 2013 22:40

Republic Of Ireland

Anyone able to give a ballpark figure for a single chap with no kids that would be eventually hired by AL on the Irish/English FO contract, given the average flight activity, after taxes ant social contributions?

Thanks!

Boeing 77W 2nd July 2013 16:36

I can't speak for the Irish contract but the UK contract for BHD and LGW is a starting salary of approximately £42,000 with flight pay in the region of £9k. I believe it is due to go up in the near future.

What makes you say it is going to go up?

Great to see an airline expanding like this in such difficult circumstances and also great to see the return of a proper cadet pilot scheme. :D Fair play to Aer Lingus for investing in future generations of pilots and good luck to them in their future endeavours.

Aerlingus231 3rd July 2013 21:56

What makes you say it is going to go up?
As far as I know contract negociations are currently in progress with something in the region of a 12.5% increase being asked for. Management have in agreed to this in principal 3 years ago, whether they stick to this agreement has yet to be seen.

Windshear23 11th July 2013 23:08

Well guys that's it... The ad has been removed from the web. Time to keep an eye on the phone! Good luck to everybody :ok:

Take Home Pay

Hi guys,

I know there is talk of a new pay deal in EI, anyone got an update?

Could someone please give an idea as to what a year one fo might get as take home pay. Also, I hear it is mandatory to join the union, is this true? If so, what are the dews etc.

I have looked at PPJN but I just want an idea of the reality, have a big decision to make.

Coupled_To_Me 12th July 2013 10:48

Young, have you been offered a position?
I asked this very question to a guy I trained with who works for EI. On a year 1 Irish contract he averages €3300 take home a month after pension and union deductions.

Pay negotiations are ongoing with industrial action a real possibility in the near future

G-IZMO 12th July 2013 11:18

The take home figure in your post isn't clear (maybe my phone is the issue). Can you post it again please?

Coupled_To_Me 12th July 2013 11:31

3300 Euros. I was surprised; I thought the amount would be quite a bit higher.

km5 13th July 2013 12:16

Good to see. I hope other airlines follow and we can see an increase to the t's and c's...

Coupled_To_Me 13th July 2013 14:27

55000 Euros into an online Irish tax calculator equates to 3100 Euros a month net. So 3300 Euros sounds reasonable including sector pay, albeit for a quietish month?

MCDU2 13th July 2013 17:37

No news on the pay review yet. But one rumour I did hear is that the Irish Revenue are looking to tax sector pay in line with other tax authorities around Europe. This would make a big difference to a new FO as sector pay can make up a significant proportion of your earnings depending on how you bid and if you are inclined to do double sector days. Much in the same way that performance pay did when we got that.

SpamCanDriver 14th July 2013 13:59

Well I just finished the online tests and holy crap was the the verbal reasoning test hard :{ Think I got to question 32/49

Good luck to everyone, but doubt I'll be getting the call if the tests make up much of your score

Squealing Pig 14th July 2013 14:36

Thought the tests had to be be finished by the 11th July?

goooselio 14th July 2013 15:10

Does anybody had a call from the recruitment team so far?

Wodka 14th July 2013 15:11

Anyone on the inside know when the PFO's will start rolling? :E

SpamCanDriver 14th July 2013 18:11

Re the tests

In the email I got it only asked if you could do the tests as soon as you could and you would only have 3days to complete them from when you registered. No mention of the 11th
Seeing as they were accepting applications till the 11th I'm sure not everyone will have completed them before the 11th

Today was my first access to a proper computer with a mouse since getting the email.

Boeing Europe 16th July 2013 07:38

I feel like I should be applying to steel inc after the verbal reasoning, as I now know everything about them ha

Squealing Pig 16th July 2013 09:00

Not quite everything, It was Steel Ltd not inc. Best click the false button for that statement :oh:

Artic Monkey 16th July 2013 09:17

Syntax Error

Was that tongue in cheek? If not then what a load of . You could say those who applied straight away are desperate and will apply for anything. Personally I did my tests late pure and simply because of work. If Aer Lingus only wanted those that applied quickly then the application window would have been open for one day only.

Expo757 19th July 2013 20:38

vacancy closed on 11th of July. Has there anybody been contacted already? My status still shows Invited for online test. I completed the tests only a few days after the invitation.

goooselio 20th July 2013 08:26

Same as you Expo.....Wait and see

sdryh 27th July 2013 18:11

Anybody heard any news yet about the recruitment?

Aquafina1 29th July 2013 17:08

No news.

Application date closed on July 11th.

What do we think?

Are EI really taking their time, pouring over all aspects of a candidate's application not just the aptitude tests results?
Or;
Have they already chosen a few people for further screening and the rest of us get silence.

Thoughts?

jeehaa 29th July 2013 17:41

At least a couple of individuals received messages last week for meetings this week in Dublin for the next phase in the selection.

Wodka 29th July 2013 20:43

I recall in the application they said if you hear nothing you have been unsuccessful

Love_joy 29th July 2013 21:08

Wodka, sorry but your talking rubbish.

From the email sent on the 3rd Jul;
"We will be in contact with all applicants after the closing date regarding the next stage in the process"

Last I had heard was no one had been called forward yet. Standing by to be corrected....

Wodka 29th July 2013 23:30

Shamrock hiring

From the initial email...

Thank you for completing your online application form.

We would like to confirm that we have received your application for First Officer.

***Current Vacancies***

All applications for current vacancies will be screened to ensure they meet the requirements for the job.

Following the initial screening, the most suitable candidates will be invited to participate in the next stage of the recruitment process. If your application is successful at this stage, we will contact you within 4 weeks of the vacancy closing date.

If you have not heard from us within this time then we regret to inform you that you have been unsuccessful on this occasion. We are unable to provide individual feedback as to why your application has not been successful due to the volume of candidates applying to our vacancies.

All correspondence will be through e-mail and we strongly advise you to monitor your e-mail account.

So by that I assume if you have heard nothing by 8th August (+ 4 weeks) it's game over.

Love_joy 30th July 2013 10:54

Indeed, but does that email not pre-date the invitations to online testing?

Possibly wishful thinking, but I'm assuming the fact that I received an invitation to complete the tests meant that I passed the "initial screening".

talktomegoose 30th July 2013 11:18

First statement 'If you have not heard a response within 4 weeks...' came from Aer Lingus.

Second statement 'All applicants should expect to hear response...' came from 3rd party on-line tests supplier.

I'd be inclined to assume only successful candidates will hear from HR. This seems to be the standard practice now due to high application volumes and the 'shamrock hiring' thread implies some calls have already been made. Out of the estimated 5,000 applications made you would assume someone would have been told they had been unsuccessful by now if the intention was to contact all applicants.

I imagine they are incredibly busy and may still be contacting people after the deadline of the 8th. Also historic AL threads seem to suggest calls continued to be made 2-3 months after closing date so stay hopeful.

Probably a team of 2-3 people have been given the unenviable task of wading through 2,500-5,000 applications. This is at the same time as dealing with the Cadet scheme assessments. A very busy time for them so be patient.

My advice - keep watching, study up, be ready and keep your fingers crossed.

Love_joy 30th July 2013 11:23

Even sleazy managed an ultra polite PFO to every applicant. I would be very surprised if EI didn't do the same thing.

As you say, couple of thousand applications, small department and all concurrent with selection for a cadet scheme. We could all be in for a long wait.

Aquafina1 30th July 2013 12:33

Thanks for all the informed opinions people! Just have to wait and see I guess, not a terrible prospect for those of us currently flying but awful for those who are not.

If I recall correctly, the last time I applied for a FO position with EI in November 2010 (?) I think! They never contacted me with a PFO email.
Busy as the HR department are I hope they manage to put hopeful fools such as myself out of our misery with a PFO in the coming weeks, so we can put yet another tilt at an airline position behind us and move on the the next one!

Good luck to the chosen few.
