Thats right, join REPA, the greatest leadership void on earth.

Pointless, gutless, disorganised plantation slaves bitching about how unfair life is. For heaven's sake DO something. This airline advances only on the presumption of continued PILOT goodwill. Remove that, and see how the tyrant jumps.

Blue Flu, sickoffs, call them what you will. Even one day a week. Let's say Wednesdays, when all those charming base captains are in the office. Knock on effects will effectively disrupt the operation for the business end of the week. DO SOMETHING. How many more suicides will it take?

That one made me laugh because it is so very true.

I believe the likes of Emirates do have a preference towards Ryanair products because they are used to extremely rigid SOP's and use of automation always everywhere.

Mikehotel152 14th June 2011 19:38

Hmmm, some of the latest recruits to FR would not pass basic aptitude checks at a major carrier. Following SOPs does not an airman make...:ooh:

Hahaha, you make me smile. :}

I hope Emirates reads this too. I flew with a captain who admitted he was not able to actually fly the plane anymore if push came to shove. :eek: Said he was too used of automation to feel comfortable taking the yoke. Loved VNAV.

I admire the fact he was able to admit this. And believe me he was serious.
I also believe there are many more just like him who won't admit it.

Edited to say that it was not meant as a bashing note to d105, even though it reads like it might be...

Jet fuel addict, you have a point! There is a thread running on too much automation somewhere else on pprune! Can we take the debate there! Automation is certainly not soley a Ryanair way of doing things and your point relates to most modern airliners!

Anyone know what was going on this morning? We operated dub flights from an out station, has the pilot shortage really started to bite?

blind pew 17th June 2011 13:40

Approach philosophy?
working montpellier the other day and FR was asked if they would like a shortcut into Beziers - they replied that they would like to do the full procedure!
Why - training - hours or company orders.
cloud one octa - base 5000ft vis 40 miles.

Nearly There 17th June 2011 14:41

Thread drift I know, but similar thing last week at LPL, FR coming in from the west offered 09 but ILS is out, opted for procedure on 27 instead of a straight in visual approach to 09, WX was 8/8 blue sky no wind, could have been any number of reasons I suppose, I just thought it odd to opt for the long way in.

bigdaviet 17th June 2011 15:19

Strange but in the grand scheme of things there could be a whole load of reasons.

Perhaps just very high on the profile or very SOP minded and not wanting to hold to fully brief a visual approach which had not been previously mentioned.

Or is there a more sinister motive at work here? Deliberately flying in an inefficient manner?

Sky Goose 17th June 2011 18:12

@bigdaviet
Think yours is likely the correct answer, high on profile and approach not briefed, so more prudent and less exciting to go for the planned option, havent heard of deliberate fuel wasting online as yet, would not be my choice. We are professionals after all, even if we are not treated as such.

wayupthere 17th June 2011 18:15

Or a <500hr f/o who's PF

Lord Spandex Masher 17th June 2011 18:16

Why? Are Ryanair Captains not able to command?

Kernow 101 17th June 2011 18:23

Of course.... But an F/O with less than 500hrs is not authorised to do a visual :8

Lord Spandex Masher 17th June 2011 18:24

Gotcha.

"Of course.... But an F/O with less than 500hrs is not authorised to do a visual"

solution = "I have control". Simples:ok:

Lazy skip 17th June 2011 19:41

Can anyone confirm that few weeks ago around 30 guys gathered in front of PB office to tell him they were all off to BA?

fireflybob 17th June 2011 21:46

"Of course.... But an F/O with less than 500hrs is not authorised to do a visual"

not quite as simple as you think - it's a requirement to do a full brief for a visual so if this has not been planned/anticipated then that would not be very good CRM.
