A top tip to all those applying.
BA is very seniority driven thus, if you want to join, best to get in as quickly as possible at the start of the recruitment phase. That way you will rise through the seniority positions quicker and, as all recruitment is currently on SH, you will start to get control over your rosters quickly as well. 1 years delay now could (and has for some people) mean a couple of years delay in getting a command. What the above allude to is an age slant on the seniority list. There are lots of people like myself in the 35-44 bracket that are gonna sit in the top 1500 places for the whole of your time in BA. So factor that in.
The other slant you may wish to consider, is to apply to start from LGW on the 737. Being junior under carmen is not half as demoralising as having NO control over your life. The flip side is you will work harder than LHR... Myself, started LGW years ago, currently LHR skipper on the Airbus and flying a leisurely 600 hours/year. Some on our fleet get LOTS more than that, but you can chill if you want. |

Cough - understood para 1, para 2 was an enigma, para 3 I think i got! Can you explain a little more please about the ramifications of LGW versus LHR for a potential new recruit? Who is this carmen lady for instance:):)

Carmen is the 'bidding' system at LGW where you bid for your days off and Carmen fits work around your bid.
LHR uses 'Bidline' where you bid for a set line of work as published by the system. The more senior you are the more chance you have of getting the line you want and thus the days off you want. As the trips are taken by the more senior people if all those in your bid are taken then you will be allocated a blind line where the company will allocate you work. Carmen is better when you are junior as it will balance your day off requests to ensure you get at least some. Bidline is a little more ruthless with some of the junior pilots being still unable to get a fixed trip line after 4 years! LGW is mostly day tripping with a few night stops, LHR is more tours. The future of the SH fleet at LGW has been the subject of discussion and closure since its inception so who knows. All that I know is that BA are investing alot into the LH leisure routes out of LGW and might well need the 737 slots for that in the future. Who knows! |
Interview slots available
I have been offered an interview but when I look at the days available there are only 3 days in FEB for selection. If you dont select any of the days do different days get offered or does your application get binned??

got the invite yesterday, I applied the Wednesday before the Friday deadline, so I think its fair to say that they are very busy and you should not worry if you have not heard yet. On the assessment dates - January dates were available yesterday. I waited till this morning so that I made a suitable choice and there were only Feb dates to take. I guess my advice is when you do get an invite- don't delay. Best of luck mate. |

I apologise if I informed people wrongly regarding the SHL package. I myself haven't used their services. I thought the online sample tests weren't of much use. Other candidates, on the day of the assessment, mentioned that they managed to get the "SHL full test package". I am not fully aware what they meant with this. I suppose: The Management and Graduate test booklet. I hope the people at SHL can help you further. Hope this is of any help. GOOD LUCK!! Green army |
