Is anyone else having trouble getting job history to show in reverse chronological order?

Hi, Can anyone recommend a good 747 sim to use as prep' before 2nd stage of selection?
SimuFly and Virtual Aviation both offer such training. Could be swimming for a while! Almost certainly. Many from the recruitment round opened in November are still awaiting start dates, which will likely come no earlier than the new year. But, if you are serious about this position you would rather be in a hold pool in one years time with your options still open, than sitting there wishing you had applied a year before. BA rumoured to be taking on 1000 pilots over 5 years or so - the job will come if your patient!:ok: |
As far as a 747 simulator, I'm afraid you are on your own. European flight simulator training in Bournemouth only has 747-200 not the 400. You really don't need it for the interview however. As has been discussed before, it is a learning exercise and that is what they want to see. I guess it could help you feel more comfortable on the day but is it worth the expense?

props over 50 tonnes? Typo or do they exist?
I currently fly the Lockheed Electra L188, 4 engine prop MTOW> 50 tonnes

Knifed.
No matter which way I entered my employment history it appeared in the same order. I wonder how soon the applications will close considering the first round closed after a week with over 1200 applicants. |
Previous Swimmers
At last...
BA have stuck to their promise for previous hold-poolers (selection in 2008) whose recruitment expired! They have sent a e-mail promising to prioritise our new application. |
Interesting!
I am an ex hold pooler who was kicked out when they closed the pool down in the middle of last year. However I have just received an email asking if I wanted to reapply. It's nice to know they didn't completely forget about us. regards |
Why weren't you allowed to stay in the holdpool anyway?
|
How many people were in the hold pool when it was closed?
I imagine that quite a few ex-poolers have had the chance to apply again in the last year anyway? |
B&B,
I believe that there were around 140 in the pool at the time. BA has a policy of keeping people in the pool for only 1 year after which time you fall out and have to reapply. In 2008 they stopped courses and so people were sat in the pool with no chance of being fished out. They extended the time in the pool to 18 months but then decided to disband it. Only those with the right TR would have been able to reapply, there were many mil guys in the pool who couldn't. regards |
"Your total hours will include a minimum of 1000 hrs on jet transport category aircraft with a MTOW of greater than 25 tonnes, or multi-crew turboprop transport aircraft - or military equivalent - with a MTOW of greater than 50 tonnes."
If I read that correctly, does this mean that my 1300hrs on the DHC-8 Q400 counts for nothing with this application? I have 800hrs on the Emb145, but I haven't flown one of those since the end of 2008 ... and it's not near the 1000 hrs required either ... or over 25 tonnes! :( This does seem such a shame... should I apply anyway? I'm trying to sort out responses to the questions! :| |
For shorthaul vacancies you will have a current type rating, and a minimum of 100 sectors or 500 hrs experience, on a multi pilot aircraft with MTOW more than 10 tonnes or more than 19 approved passengers. You will also hold a UK issued JAA/CAA ATPL(A) (Full or 'Frozen'). |
You sir, are a star... :) ... How did I miss that? Oh wait been up 19hrs and now in a flap because I have to apply for this... :)
Thank you! Shame I have to sit here and ponder some good examples for the questions... |
A few questions if I may...
1-Under Flying Hours etc..what does current qualification mean? Does it mean ATPL or Type of aircraft? 2-Also...Under Flying Qualifications Do I have to list P1 and P2 for training hours eg PPL and CPL/IR or will total training hours and organisation suffice? Seems pointless listing them as my airline hours are more important obviously. Thanks Peeps! |
When it got down to SEP and MEP hours, I just listed them as that. I.E - total SEP hours broken down into P1, PICUS, Dual, and the same for MEP. I can't see a lot of weight being placed on either of the above. Multi-crew time should be far more important.

Does BA wait until the closing date before contacting people or do they screen applications as they come through each day?
Just wondering how long till I recieve my "yes" or most likely "no" email.... |
They screen them as they come through, but they probably get more applications per day than they can screen so a backlog builds up.

For anyone through to the sim, practice in a 747 sim really isn't that necessary. If you can get some practice in a 737NG you'll be in good shape. The instrumentation and layout are almost identical, just fewer engines ;) I used one a redhill. well worth an hour at least.
The sim is a raw data departure, short nav route and arrival. We got radar vectors. EDI to NCL was a bit on the short side. |
I checked the BA website yesterday, apparently there are no vacancies for pilots at the moment. Have BA already closed the selection process?:ugh
