As yet another of those dewy eyed 30 something's waiting wistfully for a day 1 assessment, I have come to the conclusion that it will probably be a good while longer until I am 'giving an example of a time when........'
However as a year 4 FO on the Canadian tractor I can look forward to more fun and games for that period as a lower, sorry, basic rate tax payer. Rather than focussing on the £300k I could potentially 'lose' from (inshallah) joining post PP34 I rejoice in the knowledge that 40% of that will probably be sorely missed by the taxman.
*slowly counts on fingers*
Now, give an example of a time when you wished everyone all the best in their somewhat uncertain futures through a Pinot Grigio flavoured haze!

For the FR FOs considering joining BA, don't disregard the fact that you are currently paid in the mighty Euro which is likely to slide from its historically high value vs the Pound. That equates to a massive pay cut.

fate hunter,
Ahhhh....but if you actually work out what those pay-rises have given you and look at what RPI has actually done over the same time period, over the last 10 years at my company, I have wound up working for 8% less.
As long as people understand what they're doing...
Ah, but you don't need to time value it as you will get uplifts in line with inflation or whatever is negotiated by BALPA: if you time value, you will be UNDERSTATING the effect!

Well it seems from the email and that SIM checks are still being offered, recruitment for 2012 is still going ahead.
However with the vote on BMI integration currently going on, do you think BA will wait for the outcome before offering any more course dates? Or do BA not have the luxury of time?
The latest courses have been for March, with the 3 month notice period, April dates need to be offered soon

How long to go...
Hi,
I am 737 rated in the hold pool since June 2011- just wondering roughly where i am in the hold pool and if anyone had any ideas regarding when us 737 guys might get a date? Delighted to get into BA regardless of the new PP scheme, just the waiting is rather frustrating especially with so little info coming from BA!
Cheers

day 1?
I'm still waiting for day 1 as well, 3000hrs but RJ rated, guess that's why...they told me early 2012, which I hope is before March, because I'll be in South America for the rest of the year...can anybody tell me how many days/weeks before the interview you receive an invitation? To check if I have enough time to come back :-) thx!

Offers
Would I be right in thinking no contracts have been offered since the announcement of the ballot and therefore none will be offered until 1st Feb?
Does anyone know if there are any legal reasons why job offers couldn't be offered now? Perhaps until agreement on merger issue is reached? (ie no new recruitment if there are potential redundancies). I know BA isn't buying BMI just trying to fathom what seems to be a slowdown in job offers.

Cattivo,
Perhaps the rather increasing scenario of running headlong into a double dip?
The US moving Carrier Battle Groups into the region where most of the Aviation fuel comes from and has to transit a narrow deep water channel perfect for submarines?
Integration stomach aches for the next few months?
Flattening of premium traffic after Christmas?
Iberia dispute?
Government body to examine the future of airport capacity in the South East?
Unfortunately the list is endless and we, at the coal face, aren't privvy to the exact ebbs and flows of the recruitment numbers.
Best be a little patient for a little longer sorry to say.

I believe Boeing agreed to a full refurb and life extension of the BA 767s, provided they are never resold, as compensation for 787 delays. No reason why they couldn't serve another 5-10 years... Maybe we will see winglets too?

Spider-man,
Sorry, no winglets. BA are the only RR 767 operator and the flight testing/profiling hasn't been done for the Roller. Boeing weren't going to stump up for that either so a refit it was.
