An interesting question. I am not sure, but my gut feeling is, once your staff travel has been suspended, ( for however long ) regardless whether it is a paper ticket or an e-ticket, you may encounter a problem as your travel will be traceable, I don't know where you are going, if its short or long haul trip, by that I mean if you are in Europe, its not a big deal, if you are some remote island in the Indian Ocean, or the Caribbean, for example,where flights are very restricted and usually oversold, that could cost you some time and expense, so if it looks like a strike may happen, I would have thought, it may be better, for peace of mind, just to buy a standard fare. Clearly, if there is a strike, you won't be paid by Flybe, which may be something to consider. What ever happpens, I hope you have a good holiday.
Perhaps some of the BA Cabin Crew may wish to comment on this one, as they have recent experience of this situation.

A few final reminders from the Prospectus as you consider your ballot.
- Each of the Executive Directors is being awarded options over a significant number of shares within 6 weeks of the float (eg Jim F £500k; Knuckey , Rutter, Strong £250k) (page 223 of prospectus)
- The remuneration of the Directors in the Q and A email dated 27th Jan excludes the significant paper gains that each will of them will have made on the floatation on the shares they bought with the interest free loans. Trust me ..these gains will be big !
- Just in case you've forgotten, page 229 of the prospectus gives each Directors pay by person for 2009/10. If you assume that these figures included significant bonuses (as advised by the Q and A) then the new employment contracts signed by each of the Directors on 9th December (page 229) must surely include a significant increase in their basic pay levels

There is no guarantee that the company will remove the staff travel perks for striking employees.
Hopefully they would have learnt from BA's mistakes, it would seem removing the perks would only lengthen any dispute.
If the current deal ends with the intention of industrial action, Flybe will return to the table.
The cost to the airline if its pilots went on strike would be more than if they improved the T&C's to the level which would change most NO votes to YES, it makes no business sense, Flybe's management has its faults, but they do have good business sense.

Think you missed the irony there. When we were BACon we got said seat allocation, we miss it to a man, but Flybe's staff travel is not as well regarded or utilised

As for base Captains or managers giving a good kicking to anyone who votes to reject the deal I hope he's got strong boots because if you assume out of 720 pilots that 70-80% are in BALPA then that's around 500 pilots eligible to vote.
If you believe the results of a recent poll on flyingbe then around 90% of those who have voted in that poll have indicated they are rejecting the deal so I reckon the company is facing 450 of the 500 voting pilots saying 'no'.

Excuse the thread drift.... Flybe staff travel is in fact excellent. An agreement with most major airlines you can name, Low Zed travel with Virgin & BA meaning the fare you pay is only slightly more than the ID90 fare an employee with that company would pay. True, we don't have J class staff tickets in our own airline, but then of course we're not BA!

this is such an important subject ..................and the threads drifts to staff travel (thats anyway ) no surprise why flybe crew got into this state to start with !!!!!!!!!!!!

Shadow Walker - what else can we say? There will be a NO vote. Crews don't want this pay deal and don't want to be tied to subpart Q as they know that their lives will be changed a lot (for the worst).

I do think the result will be a NO vote, however talking to people who know the following points were raised.
EXT pilots seem to vote yes just for a quiet life (happy to be proved wrong but that's what an ext pilot told me)
Management at EXT still seem to feel that pilots are the Bain of their life. They see us as a problem to be dealt with as opposed to a vital and important resource!
Pilot managers lean more towards middle management feelings than their pilot sides.
I felt these demonstrated how pilots at Flybe are considered, more understanding as to the type of deal that would ever be offered!!
