Transition from TP to jet
Hi everyone!
After busting my head trying to come up with ways to get rid of the turbo prop spell, I came up with the idea of asking you guys. Probably some of you have had the same thoughts:
At the moment I'm working like a pack mule in the regional sector, flying heavy turbo prop. My company operates both TP and jet aircrafts. And actually when you look from a flying perspective I'm very happy with the TP. However it is SO frustrating that my colleagues in the company, who are flying on jets, are getting a much better deal - for less. I suppose this is the way things are in general and not only in my company. It is just a fact that you build your log book faster, thus making captain faster, you earn more money and you get a vast amount of career posibillites when you sit in a jet.
I'm not posting this to discuss which is better. What I am looking for is a suggestion as to how I can make a transition from TP to jet in the best manner. Unfortunately it is not an option to change types within my company when you fly TP and when I apply to agencies or other companies I get the standard answer: " Buy yourself a rating". This simply cannot be true. I mean.. there must be someone, somewhere that would appreciate a human ressource with commercial flying experience and heavy turbo prop in the log.
Anyone?

Hey Ham..
That's great.. I'll try to focus on GB. Actually, it is not that important for me to stay in Scandinavia. I'll be willing to relocate anytime. And if reasonable airlines are found in GB, that's where I'll go!
Any further inputs are greatly appreciated!!

If you want, come on down to NetJets Europe. The resident Danes won a significant battle with the tax situation. They are very happy.
EBACE is on in Geneva May 21.

So, where to now
Just spent some time reading these posts. I have recently completed converting my ATPL licence to an UK JAA and am now considering my options. I have only the right to live and work in the UK, not the EU. As I have 9000hrs of which 3000 are Capt on Turbo Prop, 13 Tonne a/c and absolutely no jet hrs. I wonder if anyone can offer some advice on my next step here in the UK. Do I get the foot in the door and concentrate on turbo prop operators only or pursue my goal of jet operations. What is the likelyhood of gaining a jet job first up without forking out money for a type rating on a jet such as the situation in Ryan air.
Cheers in advance.

With Turboprop experience the best and probably one of the few places to go at the moment is Flybe.
They need a lot of Captains for their Q400.
T&C not the best but it pays the bills which is the important thing. Routes are good, people friendly, pay ok.
All the best

Well.. I don't think you will find an official definition of "heavy turbo prop".
However, if you look on the airlines application forms, usually they define heavy turbo prop experience as a turbo prop weighing more than 20 tonnes.
And in the end.. what they think is all that matters to me.
