Atlantic Airlines

Hi

Just wondering if anyone can confirm the figures I heard for joining Atlantic as an FO on the L188 as I'm thinking of sending a CV their way.

45K bond, decreasing over 3 years (high I know but I'm 45 and can't be too picky) and a salary of 21k flat with no yearly increase.

Does this sound about right to anyone who has worked for them? I take it they offer medical and licence loss ins?

Thanks in advance. N.

Bullsh*t

I typed in "Salary 21k" into google.

Amongst the first five are:

Apprentice
Hospitality
Pastry Chef

You've worked out how to get access to a computer, maybe you've even had to switch it on yourself. What's more, you've connected to the internet, using your own wits - found an appropriate forum, strung together a few sentences to ask a pertinent question. You're worth more than 21k.

The salary is an insult to the profession. I understand at 45 not all doors are open, but seriously, 21k?

If you can afford to work for that salary, then you can afford not to work for it.

Hi there

I was offered a FO job with Atlantic Airlines last year (and I have buddies curretly flying for them). Although I turned them down for another offer, I reckon they are a pretty good outfit, full of decent people.

Bond and salary as stated are about right, although with duty pay and travel allowances you'd be looking at about £30k gross. Pretty good roster, with every weekend off and a seriously interesting aeroplane to play with (they also fly ATP's). I think I'm rihgt in saying that capts are on approx £45k basic (£60k gross), although that involves another bonding period.

I know for a fact they've just had 3 or 4 guys start as FO's so they won't be looking again for 4-6 months.

IMHO, you could do ALOT worse than Atlantic Airlines.

Allantic Airways

You must need your brains tested!
45k bond for an aircraft that should be in Duxford or in the jungle in deepest Africa, it says a lot about the company that has the cheek to even talk about a bond this size.
I am not against bonds as such but that is mad! if you can afford to live on 21k and thats before tax, and your that desparate for a job go and buy yourself a decent type rating instead of wasting three years on something out of Jurrasic Park.

Very little to add other than to confirm what's here. Electra TR's are run in Seattle, 3wks there paid for by the company after ground school in Cov. One course started in January, normally one mid year as well.

Good sides:

Interesting aircraft, interesting routes. Majority of the flying staff are great guys, and never a dull moment when the cadets are around (the company wouldn't run without them).

Down sides:

On Electra you will find a lot of time you spend more time positioning than flying - FO average seemed to be around 30hrs/month. Pay isn't brilliant, per diems bring it up a bit but there's better money out there. Some silly short routes - the shortest being bournemouth - jersey, day stop, jersey-bournemouth in the evening. And Cov isn't the best city in the UK...

Very rare for them to take pilots with less than 1000hrs too.

Googling

Hey Caudillo,

I googled your name and you'll never believe what popped up on my screen - w*nk*r!

21k can only be an insult to your profession if you actually have one in the first place. You won't make any progress if you aren't prepared to knuckle down and get some experience.

The Electra is a great aircraft. It may not be festooned with electronics, but it's a dependable and complex 4-engined ship with a mighty track record (after the wing mods of course!).

Naturally, it's a little harder to fly than Microsoft Flight Simulator, but so very rewarding.

Let us all know when you graduate from the digital domain!

Cheerio,

WCB

Atlantic Airlines

Good Points
  • Some good guys to fly/drink with
  • Living in Leamington/Warwick is very nice
  • errr,

Bad Points
  • Ludicrous bond on L188 (more sensible on ATP)
  • Management who bully and intimidate
  • Bad salery esp. FO
  • You are on permanent standby ( not properly with duty hours etc. but expected to be ready for work in an hour any time of day or night)
  • additional bond when upgraded to Capt!!!!
  • Limited routes
  • Low number of hours flown coupled with high duty times (at night)
  • levels of bad organisation which even make other airlines look like finely tuned machines

Its your choice but Atlantic is not a great place to work esp as a long term career.

Disgraceful Atlantic Airways

45K bond....shameful. Don't be a sucker by volunteering for that! And 21K basic. Beggars belief. Says nothing for Atlantic, nothing at all.

Light the fuse and retire to a safe distance...

Mission accomplished! In the time-honoured pprune tradition of lighting the fuse and retiring to a safe distance, debate was reignited.

Most have made reasonable and fair comments regarding the FO salary and the bond - it is pretty dire, but you could do worse than Atlantic.

Ten Dollar: Fair points- but hey, "battered heaps"!!? I can only guess that you had a few MEL issues. These old girls are doing well after almost 50 years in service.

Brainwashed? Nope, just enjoying the fun.

Cheers

WCB

WalkingChequebook - my post was directed towards Notto02. I stand by them.

Out of interest - prompted by your own search on my name - I took another look on Google for "Salary 21k".

Page one of the results now includes:

Junior Sous-chef
Telesales

So fair enough. I'm a flight sim w**ker and you're a pilot on the salary of a junior kitchen-hand. You win.

Well if you go on the ATP your bond is only £18,000 so its not that bad, at least you dont have to pay for your TR like you do at many other airlines. The bond doesnt really matter as long as you stay with the company for 3 years, which most people would for their first job. If they are not going to do that then they are not the people the company would want anyway !!

Also, the FO salary comes out at around £2,000 per month AFTER TAX which is good considering the company have just paid for TR. There is no deduction from your salary for the TR. I dont think the above is bad for a first job on a JAR 25 aircraft !!!

PROS -

TR paid for
Money not bad
MOST WEEKENDS OFF
A few nights a month off downroute
Variation of flying
People who work there
Much less days worked than with any other airline i know
Fast track promotion to Captain (18 months)
Very good location so you can drive to work and dont have to move
No passengers

CONS -

Flying at night, although you get that many days off inc weekends you dont mind.

As far as im concerned, the pros far out way the con. I fly for the company and really enjoy it.
