Casablanca jet4you

Hi Guys,
Been offered a contract position to fly the 737-400 in Casablanca for Jet4You. Anyone have any idea what this place is like? Not too pushed about the actual airline info as have a fair idea about that already but I am a bit worried about life in Casablanca in general i.e. Security, nightlife, day to day cost of living etc etc?

Any thought or info appreciated,

L-P

paddy,

Security-wise, bomb attacks occured recently down here. Police seem to do its best to tackle the development of these unfortunate events. But it's hard for the general public to actally know what's happening behind the scenes on this issue. As for myself I elect to avoid places which may constitute targets. The Casablancan american consulate just closed down as a result of the recent attacks

Otherwise, life is by far cheaper than what you may experience in major european cities.

Dunno about night life. My feeling is that any place that may embody occidental interests or "decadent" way of life could constitute targets for bomb attacks. Therefore I opt to avoid them. Just a personal opinion. Maybe some others have different views...

Be also prepared to crazy ways of driving in Casablanca. Running red lights is almost "standard" over here...

Casablanca is not that bad at all. Have spent lot's of time there.

Nightlife is good, very nice bars but same prices as average Europe when it comes to their drinks. It's probably not as nice as Marrakech but you can't have it all.
Food is good in most restaurants, and these are much cheaper then Europe.
Most of the local people are nice, some of them will try the earn something by walking next to you and then saying that they have been your guide. Don't argue, just get used to it and ignore them. It's not the most polite way but the most effective way.
Personally I feel reasonably safe, crime is punished in a more effective way then in the rest of europe.
About the recent attacks, they were ususally in certain quarters of Casablanca were you'll never be normally. Up untill now off course.

All in all, not a bad place to be, especially summer time. Just go there open minded, with some respect for their religion and traditions and it'll be great fun.

When it comes to driving, just take a petite (red) taxi, pay 3 Euro's if you remain in the local (interesting) area's.

Pm me if you want some more recommendations.

If you speak arabic or french and respect the local people and their religion, you will enjoy the place. Nice weather, never very cold and rarely too hot. Great food. Golf, sailing, tennis,...

Any chance someone gives us an idea of the money you "take home" from working with them? Other benefits?

Thanks

Living in Casa at the moments, been here six months and have to say it's like a southern European city, just a few years behind thats all. But nice all the same, don't worry about the bombings, i don't, as for not going to certain places cos you think you might get blown up..hmm yeah ok...drinkin is mainly done in Hotels, ie the Sheraton or the Hyatt, the latter being very expensive and down on the Corniche. Foods cheap and good with lots of variation on offer. It's very liberal here compared to other Morrocan cities, it's good you'll enjoy it....anything else get in touch oh and it does get hot in the summer average's about 42 in July/August/Sept, i consider that pretty hot......

I recently entered into communications with parc on the Jet4you deal in Casablanca.

we exchanged some information and after I sent in my stuff and asked some questions in return -- wham.. silence for over two weeks now, not even an acknowledgment! I sent a follow up just to ask if anyone was still alive at Parc.. sofar the jury is still out

I do hope they have not all perished, but, is this normal? or should I assume that the interest is not there?

FMC

they are serious, but do not upgrade contractors.

Ask them how many have been upgraded without 737 command hours, which is a CAA requirement for non-nationals.

nice place though, their RAK base is nicer.

cheers IP

A lot of info are correct, some is wrong.

There has been upgrading of foreigners to Captain; for suitable candidates it will be available in the future also.
3 X -400 and as of May 1 X -800 with more to come later during the year.
Steadily growing amount of flights and destinations.

The pay-scale is under negotiations at the moment and a review is expected shortly with adjustment to stay in the upper level of payrates.

There is NO Marrakech (RAK) base. This is history.

Training and checks are as per JAR, also the environment is non-JAR.

Plenty of CATIIIa approaches during January and February with verey decent temperatures during day-time. Usually above 20° and not much above 30° during the summer.

Beaches are some miles away, Mohammedia in the north and Al Jadida in the south; Royal Air Maroc and some Jet4you crew are living in Mohammedia.

Casablanca town is crowded and during rush-hour driving comes close to M25 situations around the M3 / M4 junction.....with no one actually respecting any basic law....sound the horn, push, use all kind of signs and languages and you make your way, relax and take it easy will give you a smoother but much longer ride. Solution is using "petite taxi", extremely cheap and for 2€ you can reach most places within the city.

Pedestrians have no rights, at least that is what it looks like...

The place is not safer nor unsafer than any other busy city in the world, i.e. less bombing as in London. Is there any safe place left on this planet? I am not living in Casablanca, but I am there a lot. There are many places for the evening and for very good food. Alcohol is available also a bit on the higher side of the pricelist. Food is available for very good value, all sort of tastes and flavours.

People are friendly and helpful; yes, there are some around who will play with you but, you will find them in Paris, London, Milano and other towns as well.

Contractair is the favorite agency for Jet4you, Rishworth for Royal Air Maroc and Atlas Blue, details are available from them. Replies are sometimes slow as the DAC (Moroccan CAA) has to give clearance and will check your docs first.

Good luck
