Casablanca is not that bad at all. Have spent lot's of time there.
Nightlife is good, very nice bars but same prices as average Europe when it comes to their drinks. It's probably not as nice as Marrakech but you can't have it all.
Food is good in most restaurants, and these are much cheaper then Europe.
Most of the local people are nice, some of them will try the earn something by walking next to you and then saying that they have been your guide. Don't argue, just get used to it and ignore them. It's not the most polite way but the most effective way.
Personally I feel reasonably safe, crime is punished in a more effective way then in the rest of europe.
About the recent attacks, they were ususally in certain quarters of Casablanca were you'll never be normally. Up untill now off course.
All in all, not a bad place to be, especially summer time. Just go there open minded, with some respect for their religion and traditions and it'll be great fun.
When it comes to driving, just take a petite (red) taxi, pay 3 Euro's if you remain in the local (interesting) area's.
