BA makes a loss at LGW

not sure that is a true statement anymore.... SFG is a very efficient little business now, in terms of crew cost at least, and many of the Carribean routes for which there are no room at LHR are commercialy important for BA.

Considering that Mr. Walsh isn't keen on the franchise arrangement, despite all of the hard work GB Airways has put in, I would imagine the airline will end up working as an independent airline with their own brand, own services on existing routes where they have the slots, and where they don't, BA will take over the most profitable of GB's route network. I can see a Monarch-esque airline being launched out of GB, serving routes alongside, or just out of the reach, of the no-frills airlines with a quality product.

As for the constant "WW said this about franchises.... WW said that about franchises" What bolony. None of it is backed up or substantiated
Some of it is most definitely backed up by multiple first hand sources within BA and the meaning at the time was quite clear that GB would not be a BA franchise for long.

Excellent post flapjack...
Carnage - if it's come from multiple first hand sources and you're so adamnt about this, post their names on here.
I personally think it's a load of poo - no-one has any idea what's going on, and we'll all be the last to know. There are various options, but as far as us all dreaming of joining BA - please!! Virgin would be a far better choice for us, especially seeing as how many whingers there are in BA.

I don't remember their names and even if I did I wouldn't post them on here. Willie has made these comments in front of a room of BA pilots on a command course, so there are mulitple witnesses for a start. He's also made the comment to management at Waterworld, and I do have a name for my source there but, again, am not going to publish it here. The comments were most certainly made.

Thanks to all who have added "what they have heard".
I've heard various stories including the following:
"50 NGs for BA LGW"
"6 A330s as a single fleet LGW, second hand from middle eastern origin to last until A350 ready, 777s back to LHR, and A320/ 319 to be LGW SH"
The old one from Seattle - BA ordered everything they make, 737/ 77/747-8/ 787. Presuambly 737 for LGW on this one.
I have also heard that the lease on the 3/5s is up later this year/ early next year.
Apparently there will be a board meeting in May in which it is expected that the replacement plans for LGW (or maybe closure of) will be anounced.
Oh yes, and that WW has stated that GB will not be a franchise after this year.
I also heard the reason that GB has moved engineering to Virgin, is partly due to the fact that BA has had to pay for them through times of financial difficulty, which does not suit BA.
I work for BA at LGW, so that is where I have heard these stories. I don't profess them to be true, just adding what I have heard in the Rumour area.
Anyone know why GB didn't put a secong a/c up at Man?
Please don't take cheap shots at each other (unless it's a joke), we're all here trying to get a clue as to our future, wherever we work.
Any comments or rumours contrary or to confirm what I have heard greatly appreciated.

Cheers - hope all works out for everyone.

Just a thought lads and lasses,........

Just driving home from work (STN) and on Virgin Radio,....... they were advertising BA Flights to HER, INN, TUN, MLA, AGP. At the end of the advert, they quoted "flights operated by gbairways.com"......

Normally, they would say something like "terms and conditions apply".......and not advertise a Franchise operator

Is this the start of BA promoting GB in its own right?

I'm sure the total lack of interest in LGW by most crew in the past has WW shaking in his boots! They'll do as they're told and no breakfast for them either!

Sony,
You have only made two posts on PPRuNe and are a relative newcomer.
Your first post was most insistent that there was no evidence to suggest a big announcement was to come from GB/BA. Your second post now states that there was a meeting (somewhere), that you are privy to, and that the outcome of that meeting is that GB is to go it alone.
I certainly hope you are sure of your facts because suggestions like this can have a major and unsettling impact on employees of both these companies.
Perhaps you would elaborate further on this meeting, who attended, where it was held and how you know about it!

Although this is a GB topic, they are just the latest member of the ''BA family of friendships'' to come under the microscope, on the say-so of WW.

BMED has gone, and Loganair will be making an announcement in the not too distant future - date unknown as of yet but it will happen... It has been stated officially by BA Regional Management that WW has no time for franchises / affiliates including Loganair. According to sources connected to LC they are looking into 'going their own way' once the flybe deal with Connect has gone through...

Good luck to all at GB (whatever and whenever the alleged announcement is) and BMED and Loganair

You will probably fair better in the long run away from London Airways on their reckless road to T5, sorry RUIN!
