Jetstar Australia Conditions

Can anyone out there elaborate on T's and C's for Jetstar Australia?
I would be looking at a D/E Command so am interested in Pay, Roster and general feeling within the pilot body. Thanks

Mate,
Try Dunnanda and Godzone. Make sure you have plenty of time too.

Lets just say, the state of play industrially in OZ aint so flash at the moment.

I have no idea what's on offer at Jet* and no interest, as I am having enough fun doing what I do. However, before you totally bag it as crap, look at the base, cost of living etc. For example, if it's anywhere near Avalon, just out of Melbourne, there are lots of good places to live, where the real estate ain't too over-priced e.g. Geelong. If it's Sydney, think overpriced, probably like any European capital, but with great beaches if you don't mind the occasional mugging. Think petrol going to maybe $1.50 a liter by mid year, interest rates maybe 8% and a decent car for about 25,000 local dollars. In other words, you don't want to compare it with London or Paris.
Reckon it won't be too bad, but the locals may not make you feel too welcome unless you drink beer and follow AFL - if you don't know what that is, you have some study to do.

Firstly you will need right of abode in Australia. Total package comes to about 160K AUD. 10 days off a month, but that may include days down route.
Base Sydney (Expensive real estate) and don't forget the 49% tax rate.

I think you would be approximatley the lowest paid wide-bodied Captain in the world, having passed the Qantas physco- babble to earn the privilage. Why else would the need to advertise world-wide when Australia has a permanent surplus of pilots?

Any dead heading/ paxing will be in Economy Class.
Maintain your own set of Jeppesens.
No Home Transport provided.
Intention is for 10 days off per roster period (read- month), contract actually reads 10 days per 6 months!
Rates of pay $147,809
From first full pay period on or after 01Aug2007 $152,243
From first full pay after 30Nov2008 $160, 701
FO's will be on 60% of this rate, Cruise FO on 60% of FO's rate - don't expect to have too many drinking buddies down route - they won't afford it!
Note. This pay rate is for any Wide body aircraft Jetstar will operate. No more pay for B787 (or A380 if applicable!). Must also pay for any new endorsement.

Remember this is a new Low Cost Long Haul Carrier - expect the appropriate low cost conditions.

Read Dunnanda and Godzone as previously suggested for the general feeling within the pilot body.

Any dead heading/ paxing will be in Economy Class. You should also know that paxing attracts no credits for pay either.

contract actually reads 10 days per 6 months! This is probably the piece de resistance. Read it and understand it. The company "will do its best" to ensure you have days off at home. Anyone who's worked for a big company will realise the implications of this. They will use this to suit.

A guaranteed 10 days at home every 6 months. All other days off potentially down the line.

Make no mistake, the QF management will use the award to the nth degree. Every future a/c type for the QF group has the spectre of this award hanging over it.
Based on the way this was accepted by the J* pilots, any improvements in the future will be hard fought. To say the least.

The only saving grace is that it is so bad that eventually no-one will be interested. In the mean time....

Thanks Guys. That is exactly what I was after/ well the info, not the conditions. Working for a low cost in Europe at the mo and think I'll stay put. Everytime you think that the holygrail has arrived and you can go home the goalposts are moved!
Have 12 days/month off at home guaranteed at the mo.

Know what AFL is but what is beer?
