Air Berlin, please help.
Running the risk of being strung up by my b.lls, and yes I have done a search but didn't turn up any info.
G'day fellow ppruners,
Would anyone be kind enough to share some info on Air Berlin.
Are they recruiting at the moment?
What is the pay like? F/O and Capt.
How long to upgrade?
Do they have seniority lists, like most established carriers or is it like ryanair, easyJet etc. where you are upgraded when you have sufficient flying hours? (No I do not want to jump the queue, just like to now what can be expected)
Is it a happy place?
I believe these to be legitimate questions, so please don't shoot me down, just because I am new to the forum. (I am by no means a wannabee)
Regards, LB

Let it be!
yes, they are looking for crews. As far I know, you have to speak german.
pay 4000Euros net as CP , as F/O 2600Euros net
Max salary CP after 18 years 6400net (married)- medical is paid by the company, no pension, just LOL, 42days holiday, when you are more then 35 years old. As F/O 33days
upgrade at the moment 3-4years
good manner in the cockpit. good CRM /except with some military guys.
very bad managment! you will have to work a lot on minimum rest, no roster, everyday switsching duty 10hrs min. rest.
A lot to work 6days, 36hrs off, then again 6 days. however 10 days off /month.
Managment is treating you like a piece of ****!
Some guys say, RYR is a bad place to work for, then try Air Berlin!
Regards
Pete

Pretty much as Pete said but a few more things. Don’t work there myself but the wife does as do most of my friends.
Lots and lots of positioning, on ground and the air, running joke among flight crew last years was a play on the company slogan “we fly Europe” the crew version was “we drive Deutschland”
Summer is very busy, not so many good long flights to the canaries any more and lots of city shuttle which has long duty days but short sector times…..ie: less sector pay for more work.
Recruitment is positive, rumoured to be looking for contract A320 captains through one of the major agencies.
However there is a big caveat.
Not many non Germans ever get in, just ask around and see how many Swiss or Austrian guys have got in…… very very few. I know there is one American left but he has been there since day one and one Italian but in the last few years I cant think of anyone who is not a Deutsch national.
Fleet roll over between the 320 & 737 will continue with a very modest increase in total numbers over time. Lets just see what the IPO brings.

Peter Parker and International Hog Driver thank you for the info, and thank you for taking the post seriously.
Sorry to hear that management is no good, but hey, aren't all low cost operators the same in that department...
I do speak german, however I am not a German national.
From what you tell me, I am only really impressed with the amount of days allocated to holidays, since most contract jobs these days they offer something like 15, yes 15days off per year, and 8 days off per 28 days roster-period.
The pay does not impress, and I would certainly not like to be driving all over Germany all summer.
Thanks again, guys.
Happy flying, LB

only 4000 euros as captain?
i am not just flying for the money, but for only 4000 euros, i am not taking on that sort of responsability and crap. then i rather become a bus driver...
i also saw that NIKI is paying their fo`s only 900 euros.
we should all boycott those working places with their greedy management..

Used to work for them for years- and I won´t challenge all those negative aspects about Air Berlin mentioned in here: THEY DO HOLD TRUE!
However: Let me just draw your attention to some MINOR (?) but additional aspects that prospective applicants should bear in mind:
-You don´t have to pay for your T/R, but you´re paid on a lower scale in the first year, resulting in a paycut of approximately € 400 NET per month compared to the payscale applying for whose that joined with a valid rating. You´re only bonded for one year after line check (the maximum legal periode in Germany anyway), so you could (theoretically) take your 900+ hours after 12 month and those 4800 Euros difference in salary would have been your contribution to a 20 K+ Type-Rating that will persist in your licence. Not that bad, is it?
-Social and working climate is probably one of the best in Europe as fare as you´re clever enough to stay out of constant complaining and bitching about things that you´ll be unable to change anyway. Be sure: You will hardly find a bunch of airline employees anywhere that compares to Air Berlin employees-- especially to the young and h*+*y cabin attendants. Guess what layovers in spain are there for ?!
-Command perspectives are very good if you mentally suceed in contemplating four stripes with Air Berlin as a TEMPORARY measure of personal improvement and as a valuable point for your next CV instead of something that will last forever. Tell you: Last year, lots of us (them) have gone to outfits like Cathay and Emirates-- guess why!
It´s right: Albeit the two mentioned non-Germans, I haven´t seen any new "foreigners" (you know how it´s meant) getting employed during my time.
It was the best thing that could happen to me at the stage when I got in. But be aware that you´ll have to suceed in taking an adequate dispand at the right time!
Conclusion:
If you´re willing to join, know what that all is about. Get in, get hours and enjoy some beneficial but secondary aspects, get out.
Simple as that.

Yeaah, I know: There´s always a ´but´...
But: You won´t see too much fellows out there being offered jobs by too much LoCos at the same time, right? If you´ve got the general choice, join ...errh.... Lufthansa. (you´d be surprised what those bu**ers make a month...)
So: With my conclusion holding true as fare as I´m concerned, Air Berlin is a crappy paying LoCo Carrier.
Better ?
