No, but they do have a base in Manchester which isn't a million miles away from the Midlands
We're in the airline business not intergallactic space travel - nowhere on earth is a million miles away The guy wants to be based in EMA and would, it appears consider coventry. Manch is a far stretch from the 8 mins he could be in work if he got EMA (which in my humble opinion he would get).

Yes, though, you would like to think guys already in the company would be considered for priority. That pre-supposes that all are however equal........ But they're not are they?

hotnhi........am working 200miles/3hours away from home
Manch would still be closer than that and opens up a number of airline possibilities rather than feeeling stuck just to LCC's, and may negate the need to commute 5 days a week too. Also the possibility of DHL out of EMA???
or anything suitable out of Brum???

WCF..... nowhere on earth is a million miles away
Depends how many times you go round the world to get there

Most guys that have made the jump say there is not a lot of differance. Roster is better at FR but dealing with management much worse. I would say you would have a better roster but you need a pretty thick skin. If you get upset easily FR is not for you.

hotnhi,

Give it a try.

Everybody is expanding and short of captains.

"Base me here/there or I quit." See what happens. You may succeed. If not, you are no worse off than before.

Alternatively, you can appraoch the opposition and say "I will join if based XYZ." If they agree, get it in writing, as many have had their 'gentleman's agreement' dishonoured.

At least do something!

I think it's a very good advice from previous poster. Now is the time to move and try if you are unhappy.
As some suggested, why not check out other airlines. there should be more options than just Easy and FR.

hotnhi,

RYR defenitely will be no worse than EZY. RYR is straight forward and has a stable roster with no overnights, which is good for a family lifestyle.

If you want lifestyle/ days off it might be worth considering a Brookfield contract with RYR. If you don't mind moving around the base network for a working week (to where you can position and back for free and FR flights) this will give you 5 on 5 off! Otherwise it will be 5 and 3 with a fixed base.

About this clause in the contract for base changes. This is more applicable to cadets, since they can be pushed around more. As a capt. with experience you can tell them that you will join only when you get base XXX and they will most likely honour your request since RYR, as any other airline at the moment, is/ will be short of experienced pilots. If they talk about a base change after you already joined, just tell them you will resign if they do move you. That should sort that problem for you.

About this 5 and 4 roster that might happen. This is not so much for attracting new pilots, as some suggest, but more for spreading the hours of the pilots. On the current 5 and 3 a lot of pilots run out of hours before the end of the year.

RYR and interline...........NO,none. But with the RYR salary you can afford to buy a normal ticket There are staff travel deals with other things though and you can also use Touchdown.

Hope this helps a bit for your decision.

Good luck,

Rgds,

Ptt

Definite ... Certain ... Sure? Really!!?? How about a different point of view:

- Things that happen at EZY are a result of incompetence, lack of planning and fire-fighting.

- Things that happen at FR are a result of “intelligent design” and any promises made today are only good until … ?

- If bad things happen to you, you will become part of the disgruntled lot.

- If bad things don’t happen to you, you may express similar opinions.

It is not heaven or hell in RYR. In general; There will be always happy and unhappy people in a company. People like to bitch and moan anyway, wright or wrong, whatever the circumstances, just human nature. Makes it hard to get a good impression of something since it often depends on who you talk to.

And for promises. It depends on who makes them and get things in writing. If they will not give it in writing you know there is no guarantee and it might not happen. RYR is as simple as that.

Pilots in RYR are getting in a better position (best in years) to negotiate things, since they are more hard to get. If you do not apply and try to get the deal you want you will never know and should not judge really.

Cheers,

Ptt

Thanks to you all for you insight, especially those taking the time to PM me. It is appreciated.
I am still considering a number of options, and will consider all that you have said carefully before making any decisions.

PS I don't commute the 2x200 miles every day, whilst working I live away from home, thats the main problem.

SAFE FLYING
