Can anyone explain why BA are going to stop the recruitment for longer this autumn? Is it about the pensions, retirement age, or maybe they just hired as much as they need?

WRT a 737 rating and going to Gatwick, I don't think it is a forgone conclusion. Out of 13 FO's that I know, all with <long haul hours in the logbook, all with 73 ratings, 11 onto the minibus, 1 (lucky b@st@rd) onto the 75/6 and 1 back onto the classics at Gatwick.

Greetings all I am new to this forum
I have a ba assessment coming up and although I have read the whole thread, I was wondering if any one has been for the assessment recently who can comment on any changes since Loc initial posting.
Any info would be mostly appreciated

They most definitely haven't recuited all the pilots they need yet. They do have issues regarding training capacity but the Airbus fleet, for one, is most certainly short of pilots and co-s.

Judging from the current pilots bid for OCT-MAR, it MAY be that there are some 744 slots, the lowest guy with a successful bid is very close to the last unfrozen (out of 1st 5 yrs) pilot. The 777 has gone senior on the basis of 1 route transfer (this time next year we'll be millionaires bruv!) and the current unfrozen 777 guys keeping powder dry until MAR. Not sure about 75/76 again it goes pretty junior in terms of freezes so again a possibility. We have got to the stage now where well over 50% of 777/75 airbus and 73 guys are frozen so some out of seniority slots may be available.
(i'm 744 unfrozen P2 way too junior for command, will bid 777 should there be a large movement of routes)
The main route changes for the winter appear to be SIN/SYD to 777, extra DEL and BOM to 744. GRU to 4 crew and increase to 10pw all 744. NBO back to 744, YYC new on 777. There APPEARS at this stage to be much less 2 man E coast on the 74 for the winter as a result of above changes despite the loss of SIN SYD. But we'll wait for OCT bid pack i guess

No changes to the assessment brief- passed the assessmnet but both uf us didnt pass the sim- the sim was straightforward- expect mental arithmetic questions during the SID or other busy periods- our CRM must have been lousy...

Not possible to reproduce schedules for various aircraft, we have no set roster pattern. The 75/76 does a mix of short, med and longish haul; the 777 will give you about 5 flights a month (unless you have leave, sim etc) and the 744 about 4 flights a month. By creative bidding you can easily commute from most any place in the world. Most of the longer distance commuters are on the 744, due to fewer flights per month on average.
And yes we do about 800-900 a year, on the 777 at least.

Apart from the courses already planned to the end of '06, BA has filled this years requirement for DEP's. The company is now waiting to get a feel for how many pilots wish to extend their retirement age after the the new age legislation reg's are implemented in October. Also, the training programme for sim and line training is bursting at the seams so a period of consolidation is required to clear the backlog.
Most vacancies on the 777 fleet are being filled from the transfer of experienced A320 pilots, therefore next years recruitment will almost exclusively be for the A320.
The reduced salaries that some people mention refer to SSP's. These are low hour pilots who do not meet the 500 jet / 1000 hr turboprop experience levels and are paid approx 65% salary for a period of time (not sure how long).
The outlook for recruitment is healthy but time to command and a poor pension mean that some pilots have left recently.
I'm not a trainer nor do I work in recruitment. The above is what I have gleaned from talking to various pilots involved in these areas. Hope it helps.
