I think you would need an exceptional T-33 to get to M1.01?

Many, many times. Of course it should not be practiced. Also cases when speed dropped below Vls in cruise. Aircraft recovered slowly by itself without a need to descend. Speeds displayed on pfd have huge safety margin.
