Khathmandu vor app rwy 02

Greetings,
On A320, which method is better for that app ,fully managed or semi managed?
I noticed in the sim that using fully managed brings the plane at high descent angle (more than 4 deg) which might trigger the gpws plus the VASI lights will show all whites all the way down....
Any thought?

I know what you meant, I was just showing gallic indignance at such non Airbus talk

You will find Managed Laterally, Vertically Selected works better. And as counterintuitive as it may seem, F Full is not always best here. And you have speed brakes to varying amounts depending on your 320 variant and company policy.

How'd you do this? I tried the other day to do it, but it kicked us out of APP NAV and FINAL APP, back to NAV (or maybe it was HDG).

Final App has descent rate limits. I believe the A/P cannot give you more than 1200'/minute. With the high elevation, high temperature, possible tailwind, and a published glide path of >5 degrees you will have to fly at more than 1200'/minute.

What does your company say about this approach? In a previous life I have flown there. KTM was regarded as a Category C airport, necessitating special training.

I think that's correct below 1000AAL I'd have to check. It's certainly happy at -1800fpm at higher altitudes. That's why the OP sounds like it's looking OK then gets high on the VASI

A requirement from the Nepal CAA is that you have flown the approach and dept in the sim.

And the considerations for the approach don't end at the minima....

You have to use a selected vertical profile. It won't work in managed mode. I hope your Flight Ops department have assessed this and issued guidance. It is most defiantly a Cat C airport and you need to practice it in the sim before trying it for real, along with the go-around - and the engine out departure. The Nepal CAA insist on it - for good reason.

PS. The RNAV is much safer!
