Lasham 160908
G-XLAC, G-XLAK, G-XLAN, G-XLAP and G-XLAR all expected within the next two or three days.
Currently on site at Lasham:-
G-LSAB, 5N-BLC (ex VP-BSV), LN-KKI and G-BMRA all hangared
5N-BKQ, 5N-BKR, 5N-BLD, VP-BSQ, VP-BTG and VP-BTI
VP-BAA and VP-BAJ
C-GOAF, G-XLAG and G-XLAO
LN-KKF
EC-JQX
Not to mention A300 D-AIAI and the two derelict B727s OO-DHN and OO-DHR

Can you really see any professional pilot getting on an imponded plane and trying to taxi and take off without clearances, even getting it tugged to another part of the airport requires clearance and I am sure the tug operator would not want to get involved in anything like this either. Just seems a bit overkill to me.

Looks like the 73's are on the move at Manchester. Flight deck occupied on stand 249 at approx 1800. Not sure who will handle the flights, certainly not Servisair I expect!!

Why not servisair? Our company has been contracted to move a few of the XL a/c, handling is with our preferred handling agent.. in some places this is servisair... if the company moving the MAN based unit have servisair as their contracted agent, it'll be on their own account and re-charged to whoever asked them to the to move the a/c...

I took some pics of the XL one departing East Mids and the obvious final calls to sort everything out whilst the crew sat awaiting the go.....
If any XL Crews want pics of it finally taxying out, PM me and I will gladly makes them available to you.
Tubby linton you use something like photoshop open another layer then type over the image on that layer and merge them by simply saving it as an image. I have on this one, but have reduced its opacity down so it is visible but does not distract from the picture.. As said, copyright remains mine.

Aircraft blocked
On this subject, I was intrigued by the aircraft prevented from leaving Sandford.
The Sunday Times has a story that the info leaked out from the crew to the groundstaff, who had the aircraft stopped as XL owed money to the airport.
But my understanding is that few places other than the UK have the legal ability to do this
So was the US distraint legal ?
Pity the crew could not have ignored the requests and continued with the flight.....didnt something like this happen with a Court Line aircraft which managed to escape from Newfoundland the day the company went down ?

I think you will find that the 'blocking in' is more symbolic than anything. Immobilising the asset for legal purposes as aircraft are considered to be mobile assets and there are also obviously laws concerning interference with a moving aircraft.
That's an interesting point for debate. If an airline was to obtain clearances from air traffic control and begin to move an aircraft, could a third party or the airport operator lawfully stop the plane taking off? There are some bits and pieces of aviation law in there which could be open to interpretation.

Guys is it possible to get some photos at Lasham without trespassing or getting in someone's way? Quite a sad sight but one worthy of recording I feel. Anyone give me a heads up? Thanks

I cannot remember the name of the road, but it links the road out of Alton up to Odiham and the road out of Alton to Basingstoke. I think it might be called The Avenue.
Anyway, if you are coming via the M3 Jct 5 follow the signs for North Warnborough then Alton. You pass Odiham and about 4 miles later there is a pub on your left called the Golden Pot. Turn right here into The Avenue, drive along for a couple of miles and you will pass the rotting aircraft museum, then you can turn into the gliding club about 1/2mile further on your left. Visitors are welcome inc restaurant and bar. There is a superb viewing area with ATC off to your right.
Come back out and turn left, follow this for 1/2 mile and just before the A339 turn left into a narrow lane with a sign ATC. Drive to the top, but don't stay too long especially if there are movements as you will be moved on. There is a No Parking bay here, you can get good shots, but you are facing South. Step ladder might help?
Drive back out of this lane, at the bottom turn left, then left again toward Alton. Drive around 1.5 miles and there is a sign on your left to the Golden Oak, this is a pub in the village of Lasham. If you drive past the pub keeping it on your right, this will take you toward an access gate.
My advice is to leave your car and walk up. From here you will see those airframes on the South side of the hangar complex.
Some of the XL and the A300 will not be good for photography and as I am a domesticated bear, I seldom head off into woods with a compass. Some might know of country paths which afford views of the Airbus and the 727 wrecks?
I am told that a 5th XL will arrive sometime tomorrow.

LASHAM for Spotters

It has Happened in the past and some problems have occurred . We Have Good Relations with the Airfield ATC and GLIDERS we want it to Stay that way
The problems mentioned Elsewhere on that link Do occur from time to time
and thankfully there a minority of Idiots you get those in Every Hobby
Please and Thanks go a long Way so does considerate Parking . not climbing over Fences and Gates . Not much to ask is it but for some its Abused

Spotting at Lasham
I'm a gliding club member at Lasham, and it's certainly been interesting today with what I think may be a record number of jet movements.
Spotters are welcome in the clubhouse area, ie the fenced-in area on the north side, accessed from The Avenue, and clearly signposted with a brown "Lasham Gliding Society" sign.
Car parking for the public is on the left before the barrier.
Spotters are allowed outside of the fenced area if accompanied by a club member, and a tannoy from the office requesting an escort for group of "aircraft enthusiasts" is not unheard of.
Might be appreciated if you were to buy a cup of tea/biscuit/Mars bar while you're there. Speaking personally, I'd be interested if anyone happens to be regularly taking photos of the gliders; I'd love a photo of me taking off or landing.
ATC Lasham are a bit more protective of their aircraft, I wouldn't imagine they'd have a lot of tolerance for members of the public wandering around their bits.
